Facts about Fortune

  • Breed: German Shepherd Dog
  • Color: Black - With Tan, Yellow Or Fawn
  • Age: Young
  • Size: Med. 26-60 lbs (12-27 kg)
  • Sex: Female
Fortune is a very sweet little girl believed to be between 1 and 2 years of age. Fortune was surrendered to the shelter by her owner with no explanation or history given. From her very shell-shocked demeanor it is obvious that Fortune hasn't had much experience with people or new situations.

Fortune is a very shy and reserved girl right now. Her world was turned upside down and she is trying to figure things out. Although she was very scared she did not offer any form of aggression when handled and getting settled into her foster home. Fortune started to warm up a little bit allowing us to pet on her and relaxing but she is obviously very unsure.

Fortune did fine with the other dogs but was pretty reserved. She seemed a little nervous about the new dogs and didn't seem to know really what to do with them. She was the same way with the cats she met. Given her level of timidness it is really difficult to tell what her personality is like at this moment.

Fortune is going to need a home willing to socialize her and work through her uncertainty as these transitions are extremely difficult on her. She seems to have a very sweet personality under her fear and will undoubtedly make a wonderful companion once she learns to trust.

If you have space in your heart and home for this sweet little girl please email us at for an adoption application.

About Tier Haven Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

Tier Haven Rescue, Inc. is a non-profit animal rescue agency based in Louisville, KY that specializes in German Shepherds and similar working breeds. Tier Haven realizes that many German Shepherd Dogs (GSDs) find themselves in shelters due to a lack of training and understanding of the breed. Tier Haven is a no-kill rescue which limits the number of dogs we can care for at any given time for this reason Tier Haven focuses on taking dogs from shelters that are in direct risk of euthanasia and has a separate policy for owner surrenders.

Surrender Policy

Tier Haven accepts owner surrenders on a conditional basis due to the large number of dogs in kill shelters. If you have a dog you would like to surrender you must email pictures and the reason for surrendering to Tier Haven does charge a fee for surrendering a dog; $80 for a fully vetted dog (vaccinations, alter, heartworm test) when vet records are provided and $150 for un-vetted dogs.

Our Adoption Process...

Tier Haven requires an adoption application to be completed and processed prior to meeting or adopting any of our dogs. As a completely foster based organization Tier Haven relies on the application to help ensure that adopters are only meeting dogs that are suitable for their household based on various factors. The application is completed via email and you may email us at to obtain an application. When submitting an application please contact your vet clinic and provide them with a release of information and also inform your personal references that they will be contacted.

Once your application is processed you will be contacted by a volunteer to discuss potential dogs and arrange a meet and greet. Since we are a foster based group we only allow up to three (3) dogs on each meet and greet to keep it manageable for everyone. Meet and greets are often held at public locations to respect the privacy of our foster homes and they are scheduled at the discretion of the foster homes.

Tier Haven charges an adoption fee of $250 for each dog. This includes spay/neuter, vaccinations, heart-worm test, micro-chip, and monthly preventative care while with our organization. All medical records are provided at the time of adoption along with an adoption contract.
