Exciting news: Finn, one of the dogs rescued from the S Korean meat trade by the Humane Society International, is now ready for his forever home! Finn arrived at Top Notch Kennels in Modesto in July for extensive behavior modification - after being caged for the first 2 years of his life, he had a lot to learn about the world and how to interact with people. He came to them rather wild and untouchable; now he craves interaction with the people he knows, and finds adventure and pleasure in every field trip they take! Finn is a 3 year old Jindo, a South Korean breed, weighs about 40 pounds and is neutered. Top Notch Kennels is looking for a home with a person or people who recognize the special needs of adopting a dog like Finn. Here are some of his particulars: Very people friendly Very tolerant of being brushed and petted His favorite thing is going for walks/runs, and exploring the outdoors He is tolerant of some, but not all dogs and should be the only dog in a household He is intolerant of any sort of physical correction He is a manageable resource guarder, but needs to be left alone when he is eating He should not be in a home with cats Is crate trained and walks on a loose leash A perfect home would be one that has one or more adults and/or an older child and the desire to provide this dog with the forever happy home that he deserves. The new owner will have plenty of training and support from Finn's current trainer and best friend, Lisa Moore of Top Notch Kennels to aid in the transition, be it local or long distance. If you or anyone you know are interested in adopting this special boy, please fill out and submit Top Notch Kennels' Prospective Adopter Survey at Contact Top Notch by phone at 209.523.3138 or email . ***Finn is a courtesy post through CCHS's Re-Homing Assistance Program. Please inquire about meeting or adopting Finn by calling or emailing Top Notch directly at the contact information listed above. Thank you!

About Contra Costa Humane Society

About Our Rescue Group...

Contra Costa Humane Society is a private, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that operates such programs as Adoptions, Kitty Corner, Spay/Neuter Assistance, and AniMeals. We are not affiliated with any other rescue organization, humane society or spca.

Our mission is to empower our community to improve the quality of life for animals and decrease euthanasia rates. Through our programs and services, we connect with individuals and private and public organizations to adopt pets, reduce the number of unwanted animals, and educate the public to foster compassion, responsibility and respect towards animals.

Come Meet Our Pets...

Our business office and Kitty Corner are located at 171 Mayhew Way, Suite 101 in Pleasant Hill, CA 94523.

Kitty Corner houses adult, senior, and special-needs cats (sometimes teenage kittens). Kitty Corner is open for adoptions on Saturday, Sunday & Monday from 12-3pm or during the week (preferably by appointment to make sure someone's available to show you the cats).

All of our dogs, puppies and kittens are located off-site in foster homes and can be met by appointment once adoption applications have been received and approved.

Our Adoption Process...

CCHS has animals available for adoption through a number of different avenues. Many of our kittens and all dogs are cared for in loving foster homes until they are adopted. Teenage, adult, senior and special-needs cats reside at Kitty Corner, an on-site, private cat shelter where cats are allowed to free-roam at all times, lounge in sunny windows and on comfy cat towers, and play to their heart's galore. Similarly, we also have animals available for adoption through our Re-Homing Assistance Program, where we help to advertise animals that caregivers are no longer able to keep.

If you are interested in meeting any of the animals listed on our website, please complete an adoption application unless otherwise noted!

Adoption fees are:
Kittens under 6mo: $130 ($200 for two)
Cats over 6mo: $90 ($150 for two)
