Cute as the day is long, Figaro likes to be admired, but he asks that you take him out on a date, buy him dinner, order him a drink and don't forget the flowers (!) before you make full body contact with him. He's not that kind of boy. He's a proper young man who wants to get to know you first. He's quicker to get to know other dogs - maybe he wouldn't mind living with another well matched canine friend who will show him the ropes. In a nutshell, what Figaro is looking for is a dog savvy home, adults only, please, where patience and understanding are the words of the day.

Fortunately for Figaro, he's a smart guy who will benefit from Small Dog classes and any other kind of training you want to undertake. Training will be great for you both; you can bond, provide structure and instill a sense of calm and order for a young man who seeks those things. Crate training is also recommended as a way to manage Figaro's lack of interest in strangers who might come to visit. Give him a safe place to hang out while he sorts out the fact that all is actually well and requires no input from him. A consult before adoption will address these issues and his intense interest in high value items (hint: teach him to trade.)

Nature made Figaro cute, but humans let him down on experiences with them and with general training. We know that once he is exposed to gentle, loving people who offer structure and patience he'll show his best side in return. He's not initially snuggly, but given time and encouragement he's happy to be with people he knows, who understand and love him. Figaro, like his namesake, has only been exposed to the fickle nature of people, which has made him untrusting. Maybe you're the one who will help him find his best self. Maybe he's not really a character from opera, but a pop star waiting to rock your world.
