Stunningly handsome SARGE was pulled from his original home for cruelty; he's one of 2 dozen puppy mill dogs recently seized by a local Sheriff's Department.  He has since been passed around to two homes of individuals who didn't realize how much energy and training a young, highly energetic German Shepherd needs!  He was finally surrendered to MOGS so we can help him find his FOREVER home.  We are excited to do so - he's a wonderful boy!

Beautiful Sarge is a small male sable (under 50lbs currently, but does need to gain 10-15lbs) who is a smart young man and very quick learner. He has not been taught any good doggie manners yet, and will need a strong leader who understands the GSD breed, and can provide good structure, boundaries, leadership and training on a daily basis. So far, we believe he is well tempered, confident, and nonaggressive.  He's very energetic, but not so much that he needs a daily job to do.  He does not have a ball drive, so will not be a good match for owners who simply want to burn off his exercise in the back yard.  He'll need daily walks/runs, and other physical and mental activity to keep him in check.  He's going to be a fantastic companion for the right owner!

Sarge will do best with children who are a little bit older due to his age, and not having been taught any manners.  He will easily knock over a young child during his rambunctious play, and he'll need ongoing work to learn proper doggie manners (no jumping up, mouthing).

Other Animals
Sarge MUST have another medium or large breed dog with a similar energy and play level (high).  Sarge has a very high prey drive, so no cats, small dogs, or other small animals!

No health concerns!  Sarge came to us very underweight, so will need an owner committed to providing him with good nutrition, and some extra food to help him reach his ideal weight.

Sarge's ADOPTION FEE:   $300
This fee covers only part of what we spend to vet, board and rehab the dogs we save. On average we spend over $450 on each dog. We made a decision to keep our adoption fee at the 2005 level even though vet prices have doubled and tripled since then. We are constantly fundraising to cover the deficit. At minimum, your adoption fee includes the dog's spay/neuter, heartworm test, heartworm treatment if needed, rabies shot, distemper/parvo shot, bordatella shot, deworming, monthly heartworm and flea preventives, and microchip. In many cases it also includes surgery and various types of vet treatment for standard issues such as hot spots, ear infections and so on.

  1. We're picky about our adopters!  GSDs are not for everyone.  They demand  lots of time/effort/training.  They shed all year round and are big and scare lots of people.  They 'mouth' and are usually strong-willed and stubborn.  You have to have references and a home visit.  If you're not willing/able to deal with any of this, please don't waste your time applying.
  2. All MoGS dogs must be inside family pets. We do not adopt to outdoor only homes.
  3. You have to put your dog indoors (NOT in the yard) when you're not home.  One adopted MoGS dog died after the owners left to run errands, left her outdoors, someone opened the gate, and she was hit by a car.  Privacy fences have been broken into, gates have been opened, thieves have stolen dogs. NEVER leave your dog outdoors when you're not home!!
  4. You're required to make a lifetime commitment.  Only you can make sure the dog is safe, loved and cared for, for life. The minute you adopt, that responsibility is yours.
  5. Are you unable or unwilling to make a lifetime commitment? Do not apply.
  6. What's your plan for unexpected events and major changes?  New baby? Divorce?  Moving?   How you will provide for your dog if your family breaks up?  If you move?  If you have a child?
  7. You're making a lifetime commitment to a MOGS Dog.   We expect you to keep it!  It's YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to stick by your family member -- no matter what.
