My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

MIDNIGHT is a 14 month old neutered black male Lab who weighs 69 pounds. Midnight has come a long way since he came into Lab Rescue, he was shy and scared, and now with lots of TLC and going slow he has come out of his shell. He likes to be petted and has started practicing his Lab Lean when he wants attention. He still will startle if you make a sudden move, he just backs off watches for a bit them comes up to you again. He is starting to take an interest in toys especially if one of the other dogs is playing with the, Will go over and watch just to see what is so exciting about chasing a ball. He would like a yard to be able to run around in. Think he would like to go swimming as most of the time when he is out in the yard he will try and get into the water dish to play. More soon as he went to a foster this afternoon. Good with other dogs, has been out with several other LR pups with no problems. Good with cats, played with and groomed one of the resident kittens daily while at shelter. Knows sit, down and come. Will have a training addendum as he is a young dog. Hasn’t been on lead much, is good with an Easy Walk Harness. Crate trained may be house trained as waits to go until he is outside. Midnight comes from the country and has no exposure to big cities. Placements is limited to single family stand-alone homes in a suburban neighborhood, or rural area. Midnight is approved for kids ages 10+.

Update: From foster: Midnight has come out of his shell 100%. When introduced to new people he used to cower away from them, now he observes from a distance and then barks a little and when he realizes he's not in danger, he warms up really quickly. He plays and sleeps all day! Does very well at meal times staying in his area and finishing his bowl. He walks amazing on a leash with an Easy Walk harness. He is super intelligent and learns quickly! He learned "kiss kiss" from watching my dog. He would sit and when you say kiss kiss he would give a huge smooch! He has a good recall and comes when called. He loves to play with the resident dogs.

Update:: Midnight has settled into his foster home and gets along well with Elvis the resident dog. Toys and balls are a new thing for Midnight, and he is learning to enjoy soft squeaky toys, food-stuffed bones and kongs. He doesn't quite know what to do with tennis balls yet. He is still a little shy of people when he first meets them, especially tall men. With treats and patience, he warms up, accepts scratches and gives soft kisses. Midnight is a good size (70 lbs.) and gets along well with other dogs at friend’s house and at the dog park. He has a wicked lab lean and would be a lap dog if encouraged. He seems good with older kids (10 and up) Recently he went up to a young girl who was sitting on a bench at the dog park and met her with his tail wagging. He is young and needs regular exercise, so a fenced in yard will be a requirement. He has a dog door at his foster home and likes it. he is a happy young guy will make a great addition to someone's family.

Update: Midnight has settled in well. He is getting along well with Elvis. He's quite the Velcro lab, slept on the bed and snuggled up to me the whole time. Left them unfettered in the house and they did well nothing out of place & he didn't get into anything he wasn't supposed to.

Midnight was dropped off at a vets by his owner to have embedded collar removed. Vet removed collar and treated for severe wounds and infection. Midnight also had hair loss on his hind quarter from flea allergy dermatitis. After 10 days when owner didn’t come to get him vet contacted Animal Control who went to house to try and contact owner with no success. Vet turned Midnight over to Shelter who tried to contact owner again with no luck. Midnight was shy and scared at the shelter but improved as long as the workers went slowly. He tested positive for Heartworms and the shelter’s rescue coordinator contacted us to see if we would find him a home as very few heartworm positive dogs are adopted locally.
