Gretchen VonSchwinn's Story...
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

Sacramento- Gretchen VonSchwinn is one of Mayzie McGrew's babies, and I think she is super adorable. She was rescued with her litter from Friends of Tulare Animal Services about a month ago and soon will be ready for a home of her own. Her mom (a shih tzu) looked a lot like a Dr. Seusscharacter, so we decided to name her and her babies after characters. Gretchen is super social, loving and hap py as can be. She has lived with dogs of all sizes, cats, and children and is well socialized. She will be available for adoption approx 8/20, but we are accepting applications now.

She is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines.

You can find our adoption process and apply online for her at:

Adoption fee $200

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Gretchen VonSchwinn, a Sacramento Shih Tzu puppy was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Shih Tzu for sale in Sacramento, or seeking a Shih Tzu puppy from a breeder in Sacramento.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Sacramento already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Sacramento breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Shih Tzu breeders who help with Shih Tzu rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Sacramento paves the way for another one to be saved.
