Our shelter veterinarian, Dr. Yoffe, happened upon this grown rooster while walking along the Baylands Trail during her lunch break on September 1. She chased him for a bit and caught him with her bare hands to bring him to the safety of the shelter. We gave him the distinguished name `Chanticleer`, a medieval name for rooster. He crows about and enjoys eating fresh greens and chicken feed. Roosters are generally not allowed to be kept in Palo Alto, except in areas zoned for agriculture or open space. He certainly doesn''t belong in the Baylands Nature Preserve. Lucky for him, he didn''t end up as a meal for a fox or raptor!
