Meet Bubba! He is a pint sized bundle of love. Bubba was brought to the vet with orders to be put down because he is vicious. Luckily the vets office saw right through the disguise and here Bubba is today safe and sound. And he is a total love bug! Bubba is a pint sized pal who is about 7 years old. He is a Chihuahua who loves to cuddle. He also enjoys a good walk if you care for one too. Bubba came in with his playmate Missy. But we think they would do just fine in their own homes! Missy is a bit more shy then our boy Bubba so she is taking a little bit longer to come around. Bubba on the other hand is ready to go! For more information about Bubba email Matt at for more information. To help us return your inquiry quickly, please include your name, phone number and a good time for us to call.

About Protectors of Animals

About Our Rescue Group...

We are a NO-Kill rescue and shelter for cats and dogs.

POA was formed in 1975 to rescue abandoned, abused and stray cats and dogs. Today we are one of the oldest and most respected animal welfare organizations in the northeast. POA is here to stay! You will not find a more dedicated, experienced or thorough resource for improving the lives of Connecticut cats and dogs. We confine our focus to our home state because this is where our infrastructure and resources reside, as well as our leadership.

Come Meet Our Pets...

Cat and Kitten Adoption Events and Open House every Saturday from 10 AM to 4 PM at our cat shelter: 144 Main Street, East Hartford, CT. Visit and interact with our cats and kttens in our feline playroom to help make the perfect selection for your home.

Petsmart at 5 Main Street, East Hartford, CT has a selection of our available cats that need loving homes. You can visit them anytime during Petsmart's hours. POA has volunteers every Saturday and Sunday from 10AM to 2 PM at this location to answer your questions and to help you start the adoption process.

Select adoptable dogs are shown at Petsmart in East Hartford the 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month from 10-1 pm. Also select dogs are at Petco in Middletown the 2nd Saturday of each month from 10 am - 2 pm. Otherwise we would be happy to set up a private appointment for you to meet the dog who interests you.

Our Adoption Process...

We do have a screening and application process. We ask that folks fill out the easy 2 page Adoption Application at and e-mail it to the identified placement focal on the dog's bio,, fax it or bring it with you to our Adoption center any Saturday from 10am-4pm or during the week by appointment. Protectors of Animals may require a veterinarian check before any adoption.

One of our experienced Placement Team members will meet with you and show you the cat, kitten or dog you are interested in, or will guide you towards cats, kittens or dogs that are appropriate for your home environment. We will discuss with you the background of the cat, kitten or dog and what special needs or requirements he or she may have. We will happily take the time to carefully answer any questions you have or discuss any concerns.

POA does not charge an adoption “fee.” It costs POA anywhere from $100 and $400, or more, per dog or cat or kitten to make them well and prepare them for adoption. We are an all-donation organization and we rely on adoption donations to help us continue our work. When you adopt a cat or dog, we will ask for a donation. Our adoption donation information can be found at our website at
