Meet Guinevere! She has big personality in a small package. Guinevere was admitted to a local veterinary clinic by her owner because she was very sick. After examination the vet determined that she was suffering from pyometra (an infection in her uterus). The owner agreed to have the surgery done, but when Guinevere was recovered enough to return home, her owner never came to pick her up. Repeated attempts to contact the owner were not successful. So the vet clinic turned to us for help. Guinevere received a complete examination and updating of vaccines. That is how we found out that she was also positive for heartworm disease. Now she has been treated for that too, and is negative. Finally, she is ready to find a forever home that will love her for the rest of her life! Guinevere is a Rat Terrier mix and is approximately 6 years old. She is house trained and walks well on a leash. She still has lots of spunk and will wiggle her little tail and “speak” to you when excited! She also greatly enjoys sunning and will roll around in the grass to warm all sides at once! At only around 8 pounds – she is the cutest little girl! Guinevere gets along with dogs that are her same size with a calm personality. Although she would probably do best as an only dog because she can sometimes be a little bossy and wants all the attention to herself. She also does will with cats. We would not recommend Guinevere to a home with small children just because of her size and personality. Guinevere has been spayed, up to date on all vaccines (Dhpplv, Bordatella and Rabies) and is now heartworm negative. She takes a monthly Heartworm and flea/tick prevention. Does your home sound like the perfect one for our little Guinevere? If so, email today for an application!

Please, you MUST visit the following link BEFORE emailing for further information. If you'd like to find out more information about our adoption procedure or to apply for this dog visit

Or e-mail to request an adoption application, or visit our website at

Once we receive your complete application, an adoption counselor will call you within 48 hours of receipt of the application. During the adoption interview, the adoption counselor will tell you more about the dog/puppy and our adoption processes, as well as answer any questions you have.

Dogs and puppies are up-to-date on their vaccinations, spayed/neutered, de-wormed, treated for fleas/ticks and heartworm negative before leaving rescue. You will receive complete medical records for your dog and puppy at the time of adoption.

The adoption fee is $450 and covers the cost of all veterinary care and transportation to your area.

Our dogs and puppies are delivered via a USDA-certified van transport and receive an Interstate Health Certificate -- issue by a licensed, accredited veterinarian -- no more than 10 days before the dog or puppy leaves rescue.

All of our dogs and puppies come into rescue from the "death row" of animal shelters in the south, or are owner surrenders or strays who were "pound bound" before coming into rescue. Adopting a dog or puppy from the Dixie Pet Underground Railroad means you are truly part of a partnership to save the life of the dog or puppy that you welcome into your family.

Our dogs or puppies are fostered at our rescue in Tennessee, meaning that it isn't possible to meet the dog or puppy before adoption. Our adoption counselor works with you to do everything possible to ensure that there is a good match between the family and the dog. We have had several hundred dogs adopted using this process and most of the time, it results in happy puppies and happy people.

If for any reason an adoption is not successful, the Dixie Pet Underground Railroad will work with the adopter to find the best possible solution for the dog and the adopting family.

We can provide contact information for adopters in your area who can tell you about their experience partnering with the Underground Railroad to save the life of a dog and make the animal a part of their family.

We look forward to hearing from you and working with you to find the right dog for your family!

At times, a dog may be in foster care in NY and their bio will clearly be marked as such so you will know. These southern dogs & cats are brought up to their new owners every other week! We have a 14 day money back guarantee and the pet can be rehomed appropriately if things don't work out. Each group tries hard to get good matches in your homes so that everyone has a happy life together! To date the cooperative has placed several thousand dogs and puppies, cats and kittens in loving homes! Each group has many, many, references of happy adopters that can fill you in on their experience. Just email and they can pass along that information for your convenience. Thanks!
