Tar Heel's Info...

I am already spayed, a special needs pet, in need of an experienced adopter, up to date with shots, good with dogs, and not good with cats.

Tar Heel's Story...
Tar Heel is a female lab mix found as a stray on Nashville Highway in Chapel Hill. She is friendly and has gotten better with strangers not being as afraid of them anymore. High energy and a barker! Came in with the male black lab Hawkeye so she may be related to him but not bonded. She will try another dog male or female so she is very alpha and needs to either go to a monitored no dog home or to rescue where she can be further evaluated and more slowly introduced to other dogs. A high energy environment like the shelter only aggravates her already heightened energy so she is our shelter tornado for the moment! She is very smart and will try to sit for a food bowl but her energy won't let her. She does know kennel on command and so has a high drive and is food and treat motivated. Lots of potential for this girl in the right setting! She has been tested with the other dogs here lately, and she is better with males than she is with females.

A dog found as a stray wearing a collar is held for 5 days before it is put up for adoption or rescue. Our shelter is a first come first adopt/rescue facility. There are no holds placed on dogs for potential adopters/rescue, however if a party is interested in a particular dog before it becomes available they may send an inquiry to susan.ragsdale@lewisburgtn.gov and those inquiries will be kept track of in order of received once dog becomes available. Adopters/rescues will be notified what order they are in in regards to each dog. They are available at 8am on the day they are available. Non vetted dogs will have an appointment scheduled and will be available for pickup for adoption the day after their surgery. Approved rescues may pull a dog and have vetted at their own expense once available to the public.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Tar Heel, a Lewisburg Labrador Retriever/Shepherd (Unknown Type) dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Labrador Retriever/Shepherd (Unknown Type) for sale in Lewisburg, or seeking a Labrador Retriever/Shepherd (Unknown Type) dog from a breeder in Lewisburg.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Lewisburg already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Lewisburg breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Labrador Retriever/Shepherd (Unknown Type) breeders who help with Labrador Retriever/Shepherd (Unknown Type) rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Lewisburg paves the way for another one to be saved.
