Luke's Story...

Luke was born 8/31/2012 and was adopted as a little puppy!  His first trip to the vet, he weighed 7.8 pounds.  But being a Great Dane mix, he grew and he grew!  He got so big that the wife didn't try to walk him and the husband did most of the care-giving.  However, sadly, the husband and father suddenly passed away.  Knowing that Luke needed more than she was physically able to provide, the widow asked ARF to place Luke into a loving home.  At first, Luke was a little uncomfortable out of the home that he had known all of his life.  But he has gradually become more comfortable with new people and different surroundings.  His last previous vet weight was 110 pounds, but he hasn't been getting exercise and may have put on additional weight.  He is getting regulated food and exercise now.  Luke has been neutered, wormed, and given his annual shots.  He keeps his kennel clean, so he would likely house train easily. If you like big dogs, Luke would like to be your next family member! He's a pretty brindle dog who hasn't been out and about a lot, so he will enjoy having new experiences and going with you wherever you go.  He's hoping you might even take him to the Dairy Queen for a treat.  He says he'd like that a lot!

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Luke, a Ripley Great Dane dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Great Dane for sale in Ripley, or seeking a Great Dane dog from a breeder in Ripley.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Ripley already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Ripley breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Great Dane breeders who help with Great Dane rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Ripley paves the way for another one to be saved.
