Gertie was found thin and full of fleas in the spring. A caring family treated her fleas and fed her, but could not take her indoors. We know at one time Gertie had a family that cared enough to spay her and surgically remove her right eye (for reasons unknown). Although Gertie navigates well with her one eye, she is more vulnerable to predators and cars, so it is very important that she is in an indoors-only home (with NO chance of her getting outdoors). Gertie is an absolute love! She will purr endlessly for attention and petting, yet she is also independent and laid back. She prefers not to be held much, so a home with older kids would be preferable, however, Gertie does like children. Gertie seems very interested in the other cats in her foster home, so she would probably do well with another laid-back cat, if introduced slowly. She has not been around dogs, but a very active dog would probably be too much for her. She is terrified of loud noises and vacuum cleaners, but once she is comfortable, LOVES to play! Gertie is a foodie and can’t get enough (especially Fancy Feast wet food), so needs to be fed according to recommendations or she will be a plus-size gal quickly! Originally, Gertie was estimated to be around 9 years old but a recent dental exam estimated her to be closer to 5 years. Please consider giving Gertie the loving home she deserves!
