About Granville County Animal Shelter (Partners for Adoption Rescue and Education Inc.)

About Our Shelter...

The Granville County Shelter Partners for Adoption, Rescue and Education ("SPARE") Virtual Shelter exists for the primary purpose of providing current and up-to-date information on the animals at the Granville County Animal Shelter (GCAS), located at 5650 Cornwall Rd., Oxford NC. Our goal is to increase awareness and exposure of our homeless animals in need and to broaden the available opportunities for saving them, while also simplifying a sometimes confusing process. Working cooperatively with GCAS staff and regularly visiting and interacting with the animals personally, we are able to provide, through this page, convenient one-stop access to clear, concise and reliable information on available animals to interested parties, and assist them with any questions or concerns they may have. We hope to utilize the vast size, lightening-speed technology and powerful communication capabilities of the Facebook community to improve the chances of our shelter animals being re-homed quickly and responsibly either through private citizen adoption or by placement into a 501c3 Rescue organization. We are not shelter employees and don't speak for the GCAS or make decisions on their behalf, but in working closely with them we are able to serve as liaisons between adopters/rescuers and shelter staff, streamlining the flow of information for all involved parties.

This page is intended to be used for the sole and exclusive purpose of helping our shelter animals find safety in new homes, and is not intended to be a forum for criticism of shelter policies/procedures, nor for promoting or protesting any particular cause. Although we wholeheartedly respect the opinions that others hold on topics related to animal welfare, it is our belief that controversial, political/activist, critical, derogatory or offensive posts and responses delay the rescue process and distract from the immediate and urgent need to get our animals out of the shelter and into safe and nurturing environments as quickly as possible. We ask that you join us in putting aside personal feelings for the purpose of communicating on this page to insure that this critical, time-sensitive objective is met. Any posts deemed inappropriate based on these guidelines will be deleted, and repeat offenders will be banned from posting on the GC-SPARE Virtual Shelter page.

Please "like" and follow our page, enable notifications, visit our photo albums regularly, tag and comment to help generate interest, share our posts and photos, and encourage your friends and family to do the same! These precious lives depend on all of us working quickly and diligently to save them! You can help SPARE a life today!!!

Our Adoption Process...

You can adopt an animal by appearing in person at the GCAS facility during adoption hours, completing required paperwork including the GCAS adoption contract, and paying the adoption fee. Your new pet can go home with you as soon as the transaction is complete!

The fee for the private adoption of an animal from GCAS is $50.00, payable by cash or check, and also requires that the adopter sign the shelter's standard legal adoption contract. The adoption contract requires that the adopter agree that any unaltered and/or un-microchipped animals adopted from the shelter will be spayed/neutered and microchipped within a specified period of time at the adopter's expense. Proof of these services from a licensed veterinarian is required to be submitted to GCAS to satisfy the terms of the contract agreement. The adoption fee for dogs/puppies includes rabies vaccine (for those old enough to receive the vaccination), DHPP vaccine, and standard deworming. Animals may or may not be spayed or neutered depending on whether or not sterilization was performed before the animal arrived at the shelter. For cats, the adoption fee includes rabies vaccine (for those old enough to receive it), a Feline Leukemia/FIV test, an FVRCP for all kittens/cats, and deworming.
