“We had a beautiful afternoon walking through downtown New Bern and relaxing under a tree at Union Point Park. This boy loves kids and loves a ball… any ball. This is a big boy... well, a refrigerator with short legs but what a teddy bear. He's a senior but you wouldn't know it at all. Please come see him at Colonial Capital Humane he just may be the perfect big guy for you. He has been at the Humane Society too long. This boy has many years left. Won't you give him a soft, safe place inside for the second chapter of his life? Prospective adopters will need to be dog savvy and establish you are the alpha of the household. Ritz, AKA “Big Sexy” has the most laid back disposition but he is getting pretty weary from being at the Humane Society so long. Please come for a visit to give this hunk of love a chance to show you what a great dog he is.” –Tiffeny M. Y.
“I had the absolute pleasure of fostering this fantastic boy Ritz from Friday afternoon through Sunday afternoon during tropical storm Hermine. I have (2) 20 pound older dogs, (1) 55 pound puppy and an older cat. Ritz got along beautifully with all of my dogs. He did get a little "wordy" with Timmi the cat but the cat stood his ground and Ritz listened to me when I told him no. Though he's 10 years old there's plenty of play left in him. He's respectful of your space, listens and didn't jump up or act up. He LOVES attention and got plenty of massages, rubbings and treats while here at Camp Judy. Taking him back, I cried to and from CCHS because he needs a nice home now!” –Judy S.Please visit our website, to fill out an application today!

About Colonial Capital Humane Society

About Our Rescue Group...

The mission of Colonial Capital Humane Society is to rescue and relieve the suffering of abused, abandoned, and stray animals; provide for their care until forever homes can be found; and create greater public awareness of the importance of spaying and neutering and humane treatment of animals.

Come Meet Our Pets...

Our shelter is located at 1860 Old Airport Road in New Bern, NC. Since we are an all-volunteer organization, appointments are required to visit our available pets.

We have adopt-a-thons several times a year at PetSense (located beside Harris Teeter) in New Bern.

Our Adoption Process...

The adoption application is located on our website. Home visits will be made and vet references must be provided. There is an adoption fee on all animals that helps to offset the cost of veterinary care and spay/neuter of the animal. The basic adoption fee is $150 for cats and $175 for dogs. This fee may vary depending on the pet. Please contact for more information.
