Cosmo is a volunteer favorite, who had a rough life before we were able to rescue him. He lived his life outside on a chain, and was full of parasites and heartworms. He was fed so rarely, that when we fed him, he would eat so fast he would pass out. He has gotten so much better, and has overcome so much. He has been fully vetted, so HW and parasites are all gone. Now that he knows he can get food regularly, he isnt choking himself to eat. Hes a super awesome, super sweet lover boy who deserves the best, because he wants to be his best for his people. He does require a human who will help train him and show him the ropes to living indoors...Cosmo is a loving, fun, and gentle soul. Some things I learned about my new friend: He wants to be near you. He will follow you wherever you go, and lay next to you when you are relaxing. When it is time to go into the kennel, however, he is comfortable doing so. Cosmo is curious to know what you are doing and will oversee whatever activity that may be. He is potty trained. As with all new pets, a routine needs to be learned, but it took him no time at all to get on schedule with the rest of our animal crew. He has many tricks to show off to his friends. Treats, praise, rubs, and loves are always accepted as rewards. The only time we have heard him bark is when he was happily running around playing with me. He gives you little "grunts" of happiness that let you know he is having fun. He will whimper and lick his lips when given a good scratch. Please visit our website, www.colonialcapital.org to fill out an application today!
The mission of Colonial Capital Humane Society is to rescue and relieve the suffering of abused, abandoned, and stray animals; provide for their care until forever homes can be found; and create greater public awareness of the importance of spaying and neutering and humane treatment of animals.
Come Meet Our Pets...
Our shelter is located at 1860 Old Airport Road in New Bern, NC. Since we are an all-volunteer organization, appointments are required to visit our available pets.
We have adopt-a-thons several times a year at PetSense (located beside Harris Teeter) in New Bern.
Our Adoption Process...
The adoption application is located on our website. Home visits will be made and vet references must be provided. There is an adoption fee on all animals that helps to offset the cost of veterinary care and spay/neuter of the animal. The basic adoption fee is $150 for cats and $175 for dogs. This fee may vary depending on the pet. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
