“Diogi was our foster baby for the weekend. He is such a handsome and sweet boy. He already knows basic commands (sit, down, go to bed) and is potty trained. He loves to play and go on walks. He would do best with dogs that have an easygoing personality, but with a little time and positive reinforcement he learned how to interact with three other dogs with very different personalities. I would not recommend a home with cats unless you are willing to dedicate time to desensitization and impulse control (he is very curious about them and tries to be gentle, then gets excited when they run away). We don't have any children to see how he would interact, but we did see what he would tolerate. He LOVES being smothered with affection (hugs, pets, ear massages, anything and everything) and will come sit on your lap if you stop, he even tolerated being dressed up, and allowed us to touch his food while he was eating. Based on all of this I think he would love a family with older kids to play with him. This is a dog that will be happy with any family. He likes to walk but also enjoys a comfy couch, all he wants is love! He deserves a loving home and I hope a wonderful family sees this and considers him for adoption!” -Claire and Daniel H.Please visit our website, www.colonialcapital.org to fill out an application today!

About Colonial Capital Humane Society

About Our Rescue Group...

The mission of Colonial Capital Humane Society is to rescue and relieve the suffering of abused, abandoned, and stray animals; provide for their care until forever homes can be found; and create greater public awareness of the importance of spaying and neutering and humane treatment of animals.

Come Meet Our Pets...

Our shelter is located at 1860 Old Airport Road in New Bern, NC. Since we are an all-volunteer organization, appointments are required to visit our available pets.

We have adopt-a-thons several times a year at PetSense (located beside Harris Teeter) in New Bern.

Our Adoption Process...

The adoption application is located on our website. Home visits will be made and vet references must be provided. There is an adoption fee on all animals that helps to offset the cost of veterinary care and spay/neuter of the animal. The basic adoption fee is $150 for cats and $175 for dogs. This fee may vary depending on the pet. Please contact adoptions@colonialcapital.org for more information.
