Meet Barnabas! This handsome guy came to us as an emaciated stray from the Mahoning County Dog Pound. Barnabas is a 6-month-old Rottweiler/Sharpei mix pup. Despite his tough beginning, Barnabas is the sweetest boy! We do believe he was abused, and he is initially timid (especially around men) as a result. If you greet him calmly and have some patience he'll be in your lap in no time! Barnabas loves his foster family and greets them with kisses every evening after work. He loves having a comfy bed and chew toys. He enjoys walks in the woods and likes to wade in the water. Barnabas does well with small dogs and female dogs after a proper introduction. He is selective about large dogs and male dogs. Barnabas is best friends with his beagle foster brother! A meet and greet is required between Barnabas and potential adopters' pets. Barnabas has not yet been tested with cats. We believe he would do best with no small children. He would be fine with older, considerate kids and teenagers.

Barnabas does well in the crate and does not potty in it. He knows "sit" and is working on leash manners. Barnabas is doing very well with housetraining. His foster mom is training him to ring a bell at the door when he needs to go outside.

Barnabas' adoption fee of $250 will cover his cherry eye surgery, neuter, heartworm test, fecal test, microchip, Rabies vaccination, Bordatella vaccination, DHPP vaccination, flea medication, dewormer, Revolution for flea, tick, and heartworm prevention, and a nail trim.

To adopt, we require that you are at least 21-years-old and own your home. Any current pets must be spayed/neutered and up-to-date on vaccinations and heartworm prevention. Please email for an application if you are the loving family Barnabas has been waiting for!

Our Adoption Process...

If you are interested in adopting one of our rescued pets, please email us at All potential adopters must fill out an adoption application. Once your application is completed, please be patient. The application is processed by one of our volunteers who will email you back within a day to confirm that we received your application. The volunteer will then check with your veterinarian to make sure that all of your pets are/were up-to-date on their vaccines, spayed/neutered, and on heartworm prevention. The volunteer will call you to talk with you more about the pet that you are interested in adopting, and to make sure that you are a good fit. After everything checks out, we can set up a meet and greet with the dog or cat you are interested in adopting. Please only apply to adopt one of our rescued pets if you are willing and able to make a lifetime commitment to a pet. We give the highest quality of care to all of our fosters, and we have adoption requirements in place to make sure that all of our dogs and cats go to loving homes. We work very closely to match you with the right new family member. All dogs and cats are spayed/neutered prior to adoption. Adoption fees are non-refundable.
