Facts about Roman

  • Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier Mix
  • Color: Unknown
  • Age: Adult
  • Size: Med. 26-60 lbs (12-27 kg)
  • Sex: Male
  • ID#: 9241969-15-1122

Roman came in as a stray, so his past behaviors in a home are unknown. At intake it was reported Roman was very fearful with his tailed tucked and whale eyes, he allowed minimal handling. During SAFER Roman came into the assessment room nervous and timid, not all handling items were able to be conducted as Roman tried to bite at the assessor on the tag interaction. During this portion of the assessment on food item he allowed his head to be removed out of the food bowl with a bit of pressure against his cheek, and for toy/rawhide items he displayed no interest. In light of this behavior we feel that placement with a rescue who can provide positive reinforcement-based behavior modification is the best option at this time. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. His body posture is stiff and fearful; his tail is low and not moving. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is between his legs, body stiff, and mouth closed. Tag: 5. Dog tries to bite. Food: 2. Dog follows the dish with his tail down, body soft. Dog lifts head after a bit of pressure from hand to cheek. Toy 1: No interest. Rawhide: 1. No interest.

Our Very Handsome Roman is still looking for a home. Roman presently is in boarding in Long Island waiting for that special family. Roman truly is a great boy who is well behaved, kind, loving and non issue. Roman had a family but sadly Roman was a victim to a break up leaving him homeless. He didn't loose his home for doing anything wrong, in fact he was always well behaved. It's really sad to see him in boarding without any offers for a home. It's not fair to him. :( Roman is very friendly to anyone he meets. He is truly a gentleman. He is 4 years old, neutered and up to date on his shots. Roman needs to be the only dog at home but seems to wag his tail and feel less stressed with cats. He met a momma cat and her kittens at boarding. Roman was curious with a wagging tail and seemed rather happy to see the little kittens at play. Momma cat was protective and wasn't so willing for a boarding guest to visit her kittens, gave Roman a swat to stay away. Roman respected Mamma cat and went on his way. Roman is a chill dog. He loves sitting on a cozy bed that is provided at boarding and loves to chew his bone. He is not a barker. He walks really nicely when going for walks. He is a clean boy too he does his business outside keeping his kennel spotless. He enjoys attention and will make a totally awesome family member. Roman is not getting any offers for a foster or adoptive home. Roman deserves a chance to be with a family again. Will you please consider helping him out? If you would like to foster or adopt Roman please go to our adoption application.

About Second Chance Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

We are a small, individual, private rescue group dedicated to giving unwanted dogs and cats a second chance. Most of the animals we rescue are strays and or owner surrenders to high kill city shelters. Many of them have been pulled off “death row”. We are very passionate about what we do, we love and care for these animals unconditionally. Our goal is to place our homeless rescues in permanent loving homes as their former owners have already abandoned them at least once before.

Adoption process includes adoption application, phone interview and home visit. Vet references are checked!

Come Meet Our Pets...

We do not have a physical shelter, we place our rescues in foster homes or boarding facilities where they are socialized and nurtured back to health before we place them in their forever home. If you are interested in adopting a friend, kindly look at our available pet on this site.

Our Adoption Process...

Adoption/Foster Application must be completed online via the link below.

Home visit is required along with Vet references. Our full list of fees have been listed on the adoption application. Our dogs come fully vetted and have to be spayed/neutered prior to adoption.
