My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

"Reina" is a beautiful 1-yo soon-to-be spayed female GSD who is affectionate, outgoing, and playful. Reina is still very much a youngster with puppy-like energy and enthusiasm—she’s not much older than one year. Reina is quick to bond to her person, and will stay fairly close—though not to the extent of annoyance. Reina is friendly with everyone she meets and shows no signs of timidness or previous abuse. She has met some children at the park around 10 yrs old and done well with them. She would likely love younger children, but she is still quite “mouthy”, which will surely scare young kids. She’s also quite active and exuberant, which could lead to her knocking down a small child. On the plus side, Reina appears to have no food aggression whatsoever.

Reina is great with other dogs, and loves to play hard and physical. She presently lives with a 3-yo male GSD (Riley, also up for adoption), and they chase each other around and have a ball. We will definitely give preference to prospective adopters for Reina who have another relatively young, playful dog like her. Reina has been to the dog park a few times and done well, even w/ little dogs.

We don’t know how Reina is with cats, so at this time we will only consider a home without cats for her.

Reina is fully housetrained and non-destructive inside, though she is prone to counter-surfing if there is something tempting up there. She has not shown any noticeable signs of separation anxiety—though she has also had the company of Riley since we rescued her. Reina likes to sleep on her foster caretaker’s bed and is welcome on the couch, so if you have a “no dogs on furniture” policy you’ll have to train Reina in this regard.

Reina walks well on leash and is non-reactive towards other dogs when on walks. She does like to stop to check out smells frequently during her walks, but otherwise walks at a brisk pace. She walks very well in tandem w/ Riley, keeping her own line, so there shouldn’t be much trouble integrating her into walk routines w/ another dog.

Reina loves to play with rope toys, swinging them around as she romps with them. She has shown some interest in balls, and will likely become a good retriever with practice.
Reina will do best in a home with another active, playful dog near to her size (either male or female, but preferably male), active outdoorsy people, and preferably children 7 yrs and older.

GSRSV rescued Reina from the Contra Costa County Shelter in Martinez on 8-16-16; she has been in a foster home in Bay Point (between Antioch and Concord along Hwy 4) since then.

Reina is scheduled to be spayed on Sept 23. Her adoption fee is $260.
