Facts about Baxter

  • Breed: Jack Russell Terrier/Chihuahua Mix
  • Color: White - With Gray Or Silver
  • Age: Puppy
  • Size: Small 25 lbs (11 kg) or less
  • Sex: Male
Baxter is a male Chihuahua (or possibly Chihuahua/Jack Russell Terrier mix born approximately 6/27/16.
He is just adorable down to his curly little tail !
This puppy is high energy and full of spunk! He has a bit of a temper when he he is stopped (such as trying to chew on the buttons on foster mom's top).
As entertaining as it is foster mom is working with him on this. He has already gotten better with gentle correction but he will need a confident/strong owner who will provide gentle discipline and understands the principals of gentle positive reinforcement training.
Baxter and his new family would benefit from  a basic training class with a positive reinforcement trainer to help Baxter be an outstanding canine citizen.
He is just as sweet as he is spunky as well as very entertaining.
He loves his play time especially with foster sister, Cricket. Baxter would benefit greatly from having another energetic doggie in the home. Energetic doggies can get the energy out together.
Baxter needs to be fed 3 or 4!meals daily and needs lots of play time.
A stay at home a work at home is a must for this boy.
Baxter is a very smart boy and figured out how to use the doggy ramp all by himself (A ramp is highly recommended for his new home).
Baxter potty pad trained himself (with an occasional miss). He is not allowed outside for house training yet.
Baxter currently weighs 2.0 pounds and will most likely be no more than around 7 pounds full grown.
With Baxter's tiny size he will require a home with no young children.
Baxter is in the process of being vaccinated, has been dewormed and will be neutered as soon as he is able (when his testicles drop). He will also be microchipped.

Our Adoption Process...

AFCHS is a non-sheltered humane society organization modeled after some of the more progressive humane societies. We do not believe any home is better than no home, but instead, work to find the right home for each specific animal.
If you are interested in adopting an animal, please fill out and submit the adoption questionnaire or call 209-368-1761 or 209-365-0535. ALL of the fields on the application MUST be filled out or the application will not send, if this happens your time will have been lost. If you are having trouble filling out the on-line application we can email you a copy to fill out. You can also copy the application and paste it into a word document, fill it out and then send it to us at please call us afternoons at 209-368-1761 or 209-365-0535
Filling out a questionnaire is not a commitment to adopt. It does help us determine if the dog or cat you inquire about is suitable for your home and to suggest others not yet on our site.
While we have some dogs and cats at our Sanctuary most of them are in foster care or rescue homes. An application must be completed before an appointment can be set to meet them.
