My name is Ricky, and I was left at the shelter on 9/20/16. I am a black and white hound mix, and I weigh 42 pounds. I am also about 3-4 years old. Unfortunately, I am heartworm positive, so I will take some additional care. If you can't give me a new forever home, perhaps you would consider donating to my medical care. Stay tuned for updates! UPDATE 11/2/2016: I weigh 58 pounds now!

Goofy is a funny-animal cartoon character created in 1932 at Walt Disney Productions.. Goofy is a close friend of Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck and is one of Disney's most recognizable characters. He is normally characterized as extremely clumsy and dimwitted, yet this interpretation is not always definitive; occasionally Goofy is shown as intuitive, and clever, albeit in his own unique, eccentric way.

We just had to set the mood to introduce Ricky, our newest resident “goof ball”. Beautiful, gangly, big footed, Ricky is a hound mix picked up in the middle of nowhere. No one ever came looking for him, so he is officially ours and looking for his forever home. He came in underweight at 42 pounds, but he is an enthusiastic eater, so it won’t be long until he is at his optimum weight. He is 3 -4 years old and wants nothing more than to get as close to you as he can and convince you he needs a belly rub.

Ricky is now neutered and up to date on all of his vaccinations. He unfortunately tested positive for heartworms, so he has already started the treatment protocol. We have had several dogs adopted from the shelter who were HW positive. They are treated (with our help) from their new adoptive home. If someone were to adopt Ricky, we would make sure they have the help they need to get this precious boy all healthy again.

Ricky loves life. He lives it to the fullest no matter what he is doing. He is dog and cat friendly, and has adjusted very well to living inside, walking on a leash, bathing, and all the things dogs need to know to be great pets.

An approved adoption screening form is the first step on our adoption process. To obtain one, call the shelter at 618-262-7109, email the shelter at, or come by and meet Ricky and fill one out in person. YOU would be the goofy one to pass on this boy!

Act quickly to adopt RICKY. Pets at this Shelter may be held for only a short time.

About Wabash County Animal Shelter

About Our Shelter...

WHO WE ARE...The Wabash County Animal Shelter Buddies (WCASB) is a small group on volunteers who help coordinate adoption of dogs and cats from the Wabash County Animal Shelter. Our mission is to: Increase the number of pet adoptions/rescues from the county animal shelter, to provide a clean, safe, and friendly living environment to animals during their stay at the county shelter, educate the public about pet overpopulation and the importance of spay/neuter practices, and to promote awareness on the benefits of adopting a shelter pet. While the shelter buddies strive to ensure that each admitted animal receives a home, space is EXTREMELY LIMITED at our facility, and animals are still euthanized as open kennels run out. The shelter is in desperate need of loving foster homes...if you are interested in being a foster please email our shelter for details. Providing foster care for an animal ensures it will likely be adopted and spared from euthanasia. Keep in mind, the WCASB efforts are funded entirely by donations, and 100% of funds raised are used to care for these wonderful animals. Donations towards the WCASB vet expenses may also be sent directly to the Mount Carmel Animal Hospital.

Come Meet Our Pets...

Come visit us! We would love to introduce you to our wonderful dogs and cats....we are located in Mt. Carmel, Illinois at 11336 N. 1550 Blvd (a.k.a Poor Farm Road). Most Saturdays and Sundays you can find us at Petsmart in Evansville from 10-4pm. We occasionally have local Pet Adoption Days in Mt. Carmel at locations like Rural King and Pamida as well. Stay tuned for information on fun events like 'Pet-a-Pup' day and a Foster Parent informational meeting in April!

Our Adoption Process...

All prospective adoptors are required to fill out an Adoption Screening Form (which asks for a vet reference). Once the screening form is evaluated and approved by the WCASB, the adopting owner pays a $14 fee to Wabash County and an additional fee (varies per animal) to the WCASB. The additional fee helps the WCASB volunteers pay for medical exams, tests, vaccinations, spay/neuters, heartworm/flea prevention, food, etc. Upon adoption, a legally-binding contract from Wabash County must be signed. This contract declares the adoptor as owner of the new pet, and mandates the animal receive proper care, annual vaccinations/vet care, and spay/neuter (if not already altered) of the pet by the adoptor. Violation of the contract will result in reclamation of the animal by Wabash County Animal Control. Furthermore, the Wabash County Animal Control Officer reserves the right to deny any adoption of a shelter animal.
