3y 15lb Parsley Pom came in as a stray. He is furtastic with people and in house dogs, not so good on leash with other dogs ergo a home with a yard and lots of family around is his ideal home

In & Out of Cage: Came right out cage, and jumped into handler's arms. Stare Test- Gives soft eye contact, looking for attention from handler.

Sensitivities-Back: Enjoys petting, jumps on handler's lap for more attention. Looks for handler's attention when he stops petting him.

Tail: When handler held tail, Parsley sat and looked away from handler. When handler let go, Parsley stood up and walked away.

Ears: Allows ears to be touched, seems to enjoy them being rubbed.

Paws: Allows paws to be held, sat down and looked at handler.

Muzzle: Lots of head tossing, didn’t like his muzzle being held.

Commands- Doesn’t seem to know any commands.

Play Test- Doesn’t engage in play with handler. Parsley just walked away from handler.  Toy-Ball: no interest; squeaky- no interest; tug rope-no interest.

Food Test- No interest in food at time of test. Chewy Test- No interest in chewy.

Stranger- Friendly, looking for attention from stranger, jumping up on stranger and being social.

Dog to Dog- Barked when Maren came into the room, but was friendly and social when Maren approached him. Parsley did a lot of sniffing , but didn’t get very playful. He needs a SLOW approach w/ other dogs.

Many of us (cats/dogs) will be on display on on Sundays and sometimes on Saturdays--please ask by writing us at and following us on FB. If you are seriously interested in adopting one of us in particular, please fill out an application by Friday so that we can be sure to be there. Otherwise we decide based on other variables. Usually we are in our foster homes so this is a bit more stressful and a slightly artificial environment but we do want to be seen and find our furever homes too.
Please consider providing a home for more than one dog, especially if you are considering adopting a puppy. Dogs are pack animals and very much enjoy as well as need other dog company to learn to play, socialize and be good companion animals to people. The upside to this is that you won't feel as guilty leaving them alone and you get twice the love. Please come! And if you can't adopt, maybe you can foster or volunteer, and you can always donate!

If you want to know about cats/dogs specifically being shown at our adoption locations, please email us closer to the date so we know your interest and will make every effort to have that pet at the event or let you know how and where you can meet.  It is extemely helpful and speeds up adoption if the application is filled out prior to visiting us so please do that before coming to our weekend events. Our weekend locations are: Sundays usually and some Saturdays.  Follow us on FB for latest updates. Usually we are in our foster homes so all this is a bit more stressful but we do want to be seen and find our furever homes. Please come! And if you can't adopt, maybe you can foster. And you can always donate:) Cats and Dogs are spayed/neutered, UTD w/ all age appropriate shots and microchipped. Cats are feline combo tested for FIV/FeLV; dogs are heartworm tested and rabies vax'd, (NOT lyme vaxed but we seriously recommend it); rabbits are spayed/neutered. About Zani's Furry Friends--Northern Outpost

About Our Rescue Group...

Because of the pressing cage space dilemma, we take dogs and cats primarily from Animal Care & Control of NYC. If not for rescue and adoptions, more than the present 24,000 of the current 50,000 animals taken in yearly would not make it out alive. Our goal is to take as many animals as we can who make great family members/companions and give them a second chance. Temperament is our most important criteria. Ideally, all our animals are good w/ people of all ages and other animals (dogs/cats).
Our adoptees are either spayed or neutered, all UTD w/ shots/rabies vax, heartworm negative or feline combo negative, and microchipped. Most of our animals live in foster situations to help them reintegrate back into family life. We feel most animals prefer the company of other animals and hope our adopters consider giving pets to their pets. (We do apply the 2 kitty rule.)
Other times, we courtesy post for people who are obliged to surrender their animals but ask that they continue to foster their companions until appropriate new homes are found to limit the trauma.

Come Meet Our Pets...

Most of our foster animals are in foster homes in or around New York City where they can be seen via appointment w/ the foster family.

We sometimes participate in events sponsored by the Mayor's Alliance of NYC of which we are proud to say we are a participating organization.

Sometimes, unfortunately, our animals are still in the NYC Animal Care and Control facilities for which we desperately seek foster care.

Our Adoption Process...

There is an application, reference checks, home visits, an interview of adopters w/ adoptees, and an adoption donation is required.

Applications are on
