Murphy is a sweet and independent 6 year old orange boy who found himself in a very unfortunate situation. He was one of the Strasburg CO seizure dogs in December 2015. He’d likely lived there for many years, possibly all of his life. All of the seizure dogs were sent to Front Range shelters. Murphy was adopted from the shelter shortly after the seizure and then recently returned to the shelter because the family couldn’t handle him. He is a strong boy and like the other Strasburg dogs, he had no leash training and he would be a lot to handle, especially for someone not familiar with English Setters. He is making progress in his temp foster home with daily walks and would love a home where someone wants to continue his walks and training. He is treat motivated and looking for a person with the patience to show him the ropes in his new life.
He is good with adults. Like most of the Strasburg dogs that spent many years there, he was not well socialized with people so we want to place him in an adult only home where he will get the predictability, leadership and consistent training that he needs.
He enjoys the company of other dogs and is good with the three resident Setters in his foster home. He is not cat safe, so no inside or outside cats in his furever home.
Murphy likes riding in the car. He’s crate trained and not destructive in his temp foster home. He is Velcro to his people and like many ES a bit anxious when you leave and during thunderstorms. He would prefer a home on the quiet side and we think he would be fine as an only dog.
He’s been assessed as a candidate for an invisible fence. He is a candidate for a home without a fence but only if there are many opportunities for walks daily. He is not a candidate for an apartment.
Murphy is in a temporary foster home in Loveland, CO. He is available for foster, foster-to-adopt and adoption. He is neutered, micro-chipped, current on vaccines, heartworm negative and on heartworm preventative.
