My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We have a standard grey female chinchilla who’s looking for her new home. She came to NWI not long ago, and is now ready to find a home of her own. She’s a little bit different in that we think she’s possibly a dwarf! She’s got a small dwarf head and the typical dwarf gait (not quite the same characteristic movements you see in typical chinchillas), and we think she’s adorable! Look at the pictures and you’ll see she’s got different facial and body shapes than your average chinchilla, and assuming she really is a dwarf, she will stay about this size her entire life! Dwarfism in chinchillas is random and pops up out of regular sized chinchillas, so there’s no real way to know whether she is or is not a dwarf, other than waiting and seeing if she stays small! However, her facial and body features, along with her unusual gait, are what suggest to us that she is most likely a dwarf.

She is a spunky girl! She does just fine with being handled and petted, though she would probably enjoy playtime once she is old enough (6+ months). In the meantime, she is happy to explore when you are holding, and will go from one hand to the other, and up to your shoulder, to check out the back of your neck, and so on! She does settle down and can be held and petted just fine and is a very sweet girl. She doesn’t bite.

With all genetic anomalies come potential health concerns. While some dwarfs live long healthy lives, the fact that she may be a dwarf may predispose her to genetic conditions that no one can possibly be aware of. Because of that, she will not come with our health guarantee. That said, we have no reason to believe that she is anything other than perfectly healthy at this time.

This girl’s color is called standard grey, which means she is grey over most of her body, except for her belly, which is white.

She would make a great “first chinchilla” for someone who’s never had one before.

This chinchilla is currently caged alone, however, she did well when she was caged with her siblings. However, if you interested in pairing her up with your, or one of our, chinchillas, let us know and we’ll see what we can do.

This chinchilla will come with some food to start you out (Tradition pellets), a goodie bag of chews/treats, and a printed out version of our care packet. He will also come with a lifetime of help and support, should you ever need it. If more supplies are needed, we also sell a variety of chinchilla supplies, from cages to hidey houses to hammocks and everything in between.

Regardless of past chinchilla experience, all potential homes will be asked to read our chinchilla care packet and fill out our adoption application/chinchilla questionnaire. If you are unwilling to do this, please do not waste our time or yours. No chinchilla will go to a new home without an adoption application being filled out - no exceptions.

This chinchilla is located in Hammond, Indiana (zip code 46324). Sorry, but we do not ship.

The adoption fee for this standard grey possible dwarf female chinchilla is $135
