Buttons and Bows came to us in a sad and unusual way. They were found abandoned outside by the road in a cat litter box that was full of wet clumping cat litter. They likely didn’t have anything to eat or drink for days. The fur underneath them was soaked in urine and matted so badly that we could not even tell their genders. We weren’t sure if they were going to make it. These bunnies are survivors though and they are full of personality. Buttons is a big boy with the biggest gray ears we have ever seen. His ears are like tv antennas and he turns them when he's listening to something like he is tuning in. He is the more dominate of the two. Bows is the cream and white one, smaller than Buttons but still rather large and also a male. These rabbits take excellent care of themselves and are frequently grooming themselves and each other. While we can’t say they are totally litter box trained, they show great potential. They use a litter box a good portion of the time and when they don’t they go near it. They eat a lot of Timothy hay and rabbit kibble. Their favorite is the big salads (no iceberg) they need every night. They love a mix of greens, some bunny safe herbs and spices like sprigs of oregano, dill, parsley and cilantro. Between the 2 of them, they use a 5 cup pre-mixed bag per night and would likely eat more if offered. They like their salad mixed with some crisp veggies like string beans, tomato or pepper. They also each enjoy a carrot a day and a few veggies in the morning. They never seem full! After what they have been through, they deserve these garden delights.
The bunnies are incredibly bonded and playful. They like to huddle in a box, hop around the cage, hop on each other and wrestle like siblings. They are so sweet and have so much love to give but will also need lots of care and special attention in return to keep their living quarters clean and their bellies full. It’s pretty easy to keep the rabbit cage clean.
The bunnies LOVE to be pet, especially on the top of their face, side of their face and between their ears. They are very trusting and don’t mind you in their pen with them or touching them from behind. They follow typical rabbit etiquette and enjoy a greeting each time you walk by their cage. They will stand up on their hind legs to greet you if they think you have a treat (or if you forget to say hi.) They tolerate being picked up to be moved to their cage or pen. They seem to prefer being pet on the ground rather than in your arms. This is typical for rabbits. They got along great with the foster’s cat and with give kisses through the pen.
These rabbits really deserve the best home there is to give.
Buttons and Bows can be met at Petsmart in Noarth Nashua. Just ask for the manager on duty; they will be happy to introduce you to this incredible pair.

About Friends of Manchester Animal Shelter

About Our Shelter...

We believe all animals are deserving of life, respect and care. Our goal is zero-population-growth through spay/neuter programs and services that focus on education, medical care, fostering and adoption. Friends of Manchester Animal Shelter is a non-profit organization which started in 1996. The shelter takes in homeless, abused, and abandoned animals in the city of Manchester. We provide shelter, medical care, and spay/neuter to every animal that comes through our doors. In operation for nearly two decades, the shelter has helped provide care and find loving homes for over 20,000 animals.
