My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Age: 6 years
Gender: Male
Color: Liver & White
Weight: 65 lbs
Variety: Field
Goliath is a big, loving Springer boy. He came into ESRA's care with his father, Bruno, after their owners lost their home. Goliath was morbidly obese at eighty pounds when he came into rescue. He is still on his weight loss journey, having lost fifteen pounds while on what we call "Goliath's Marathon," walking 26.2 miles over several weeks. Although Goliath, unlike his dad, doesn't care about playing ball, his love of walks has spurred his weight loss with no dieting involved. He still needs to lose ten more pounds, but that shouldn't be too difficult for him.

Goliath is housetrained. He walks nicely on the leash and comes when he is called. We have not tested him off leash or with cats. He has a low prey drive, but he has started playing and romping since the excess weight has come off. He was not overly excited about swimming, but he did not resist going into the water. He is not food or toy aggressive.

Though Goliath is Bruno's son, these two dogs couldn't be any more different from each other, except for their sweet natures and good manners. They came into rescue together, but both dogs would do well in separate homes.

Goliath has some allergies, but he is on an antihistamine which is helping him. Goliath will need a high quality food to keep him in tip-top condition. All in all, he is healthy, happy, and ready for his Forever Home. So if you think that home might be yours, please contact Goliath's case managers at the e-mail address below.

Please note that an approved adoption application is the first step in a more thorough interview process that is designed to match each dog to exactly the right family, and that the final decision rests with the dog's case manager.
Please read the Adoption FAQ and get an Adoption Application approved before inquiring about Goliath.
