Jake is an absolute love bug and 80 pounds of sweetness! He is blind due to a trauma happened 3 years ago. He is very gentle and loves EVERYONE he meets - adults, kids, dogs, and cats. Jake definitely wants to be near his humans all the time and he is always in whatever room we are in. He craves and delights in human companionship and wants lots of pettins and belly rubs. And he is always grateful for every pettin he gets! Jake is definitely an indoor dog. As far as companionship and affection, you will never find a better dog.
For the most part, Jake is housetrained. He has had a few pee-pee accidents, however I feel that is due to his adjustment period. In the morning, we open the back door and he goes out to the back yard and does his business. We also take walks and he does his business then as well. Despite his vision impairment, Jake is learning his way around the house and yard very quickly. He is doing very well with the steps as long as you are there for the initial step. He has completely mastered the three steps from our deck to backyard in one week’s time. He needs no guidance on those. Jake is a very intelligent dog, highly trainable.
Things that Jake doesn’t like are trucks with air brakes. He will bark loudly until he hears them no longer. He has an awesome bark, though so it is not bothersome. Jake is perfect. J
