Ida's Story...

Ida is a ten year old rat terrier mix who found herself at the shelter in rough shape and super skinny. After a trip to the dentist and a tumor removed, she's ready to enjoy retirement and an occasional sniff around the garden. Ida gets along with other dogs, and cares not a whiff about cats. She's crate trained and house trained, and uses the dog door. Ida's very smart, and learns things pretty quickly. She's a great housemate. If you would like to make Ida part of your family, please complete an online application at and be sure to include her name at the top.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Ida, a Tijeras Rat Terrier dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Rat Terrier for sale in Tijeras, or seeking a Rat Terrier dog from a breeder in Tijeras.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Tijeras already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Tijeras breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Rat Terrier breeders who help with Rat Terrier rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Tijeras paves the way for another one to be saved.
