Poor Carol was in a high-kill facility with no hope, dry eyes that needed drops but got none and a belly full of puppies just itching to be born. Talk about miserable. I can't imagine.

We rescued her, gave her a comfortable place to have her 6 puppies, cleaned off her eyes and got her on drops (which she may have to have indefinitely) and got to know one of the most gentle and loving little dogs we've ever met!

Carol is on the small side of medium and is around 3 years young. Her six tiny puppies have already been adopted - now it's mama's turn!

Carol has a case of heartworms which we'll see her through. Heartworms aren't contagious, you and other animals will not contract heartworms from her. They're curable when caught early and show no outward symptoms except in advanced cases (coughing). Heartworms are caused by mosquitoes and are all too common here in the south but are completely preventable with an inexpensive monthly pill. Carol is taking a monthly pill (which we will pay for) until a blood test (which we'll also pay for) shows she's rid of them. This could take 6 months to over a year. We've had many happy adopters who've rescued a heartworm-positive dog. Speak to your vet if you need more feedback.

Email or call 770-971-0100 for more info. To increase your odds of having first dibs on an animal, fill out an adoption application, found at

The Foundation provides critical medical care, food, foster care and comfort to these homeless animals.
