Facts about Roxy

  • Breed: Akita
  • Color: White
  • Age: Young
  • Size: Large 61-100 lbs (28-45 kg)
  • Sex: Female
Roxy and Bear are young (born approx 9.1.15) siblings (we think). They are spayed/neutered, up to date on vaccines,
on flea/heartworm prevention, microchipped, house trained, crate trained, and leash trained. They are lightly heartworm positive and are undergoing the slow-kill method of treatment.

Roxy and Bear came to us from the animal control facility in Suffolk, VA. They were surrendered to the shelter after being picked up running stray several times. They were kept as backyard dogs and were left behind with a roommate when their owner moved out and left them behind. The roommate did not want to be responsible for their care or their escapes.

Roxy and Bear are a pair that love each other, but could also go to separate homes with other large dogs to play with. They have never had discipline and have no manners, so they will need a home with Akita experience and the patience to teach them.

About Rakki-Inu Akita Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

Rakki-Inu (pronounced "Rocky E-new) is a breed specific rescue, dealing only with pure bred Akitas. We are a small Akita rescue located in Virginia Beach, VA. We are a federal non-profit corporation, with 501(c)(3) designation, dedicated to helping Akitas in need. We generally serve Virginia, North Carolina, and parts of South Carolina, but we work where the Akitas need us to! We offer adoptable dogs, rescue, education, and support to Akita owners and adopters nation wide. We are recognized by the Akita Club of America (ACA) and abide by their Code of Ethics.

It is our goal to help Akitas in need, educated the public about this wonderful breed, and support Akita owners with any problems they may be having. We primary pull our Akitas from shelters, and we will help an owner re-home an Akita, if necessary, by courtesy listing on our site, assisting with screening applicants, and providing advice on training and behavioral issues.

Come Meet Our Pets...

Our available orphans can also be found on our website, Facebook, and on petfinder.com. Some of them are available to meet in person at Fur Frenzy Pet Spa, located in the Regency Hilltop Shopping Center, 1952 Laskin Road, Suite 505, Virginia Beach, VA 23454. We will occasionally attend adoption events in the Hampton Roads area; for the most up-to-date information about all our orphans and when/where you can meet them, check our Facebook page often!

Our Adoption Process...

We require anyone interested in one of our orphans fill out an application. If that is approved, we will do a home inspection and then have the whole family, including any dogs, come meet the dog(s) they are interested in. We ask an adoption donation of $350; this helps defer the costs of veterinary care and daily upkeep of our orphans. We are non-profit and all funds come from public donations.
