My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Wyatt is a sweet beagle boy… approximately 2 years old…. that was found as a stray and brought to a high kill shelter in South Carolina. He had a body score of zero and weighed only 13 pounds when he entered the shelter. Penny Angels stepped up to rescue him and sent him to a foster home for about 3 weeks so that he could receive some much needed tender loving care. As of Tuesday, Sept. 20, his weight had more than doubled and he is up to 28 lbs. He will be arriving in NJ on 9-24-16 and will be at Petsmart that day in case anyone is interested in meeting him. You can learn more about Wyatt by reading what his foster mom wrote about him:

“Wyatt is very affectionate and wants to be near you. He likes to climb in your lap and LOVES belly rubs. He does not lick or give kisses yet.

“Wyatt knows his name and will come when called. He is very smart and catches on fast to new things. He has learned to COME and SIT and has also learned to use the doggie door. In fact, he has had no accidents since the first week. I always let him out first thing in the morning and take him out last thing at night... he is very good about going potty at those times and will usually go to the bathroom every time he is outside. Wyatt did not jump, climb, or try to get out of the fence. He would sometimes hide and sleep under the grill cover, though.

“Wyatt has never been left alone and would probably do best with another sibling in the home. He has enjoyed having other dogs around and LOVES to play with them. He didn't know what to do at first, but has learned how to play. He will sometimes bark and "talk" when playing, but I have never seen him be aggressive. He loves to play and wrestle with my dog Kirby, but is a little intimidated by loud barking dogs. My mastiff would want to play, but when she barked loud it kind of scared him. Other than that he got along great with all the dogs. He met dogs on walks and had no problem. He does NOT bother the cat at all.

“Wyatt is a great eater. I usually fed him 3/4 cup of dry ‘no grain’ food, and then about 2 tablespoons of no grain can food 2 times a day: approx 7:00 am, after our morning walk, and 4:00 pm, before our evening walk. He always got a little something extra in his food i.e.: chicken, pork, or fish. He loves treats!

“Since Wyatt loves to eat I fear that he will have a tendency to gain weight if not exercised regularly. He is too young to just sit around and DOES NOT need to be a couch potato.

“Wyatt LOVES to go for walks and would walk about 2-3 miles a day. He has built up wonderful muscles in his once skinny legs. He walks great with his harness, but will pull if his nose gets the best of him. He is easily corrected and continues on his walk. I believe he could walk and hike for miles. He has energy, but is NOT hyper at all.

“Wyatt rides GREAT in the car! He does like to look out the open window, but usually settles down to sleep near you.

“Wyatt is a QUIET beagle...yes, I did say QUIET beagle. He does not usually bark or howl in the house, except when he is playing. If he hears other dogs barking, he might chime in and have something to ‘say’ about it.

“Wyatt sleeps great. He sleeps upstairs with us, right next to the bed. He does not seem to want to get on the bed, but likes to be close. He will sleep ALL night.”

With all these wonderful qualities, how could you NOT fall in love with Wyatt? If you are interested in meeting Wyatt, please visit him at Petsmart in Mays Landing, NJ on Saturday morning. If you are ready to make him your forever friend, please fill out an application and submit it to Penny Angels.
