Jake Ryan's Story...
Jake is a survivor from the Louisiana flooding that took place in August. He is a happy, active puppy who loves to run and play with toys. Jake is in a foster home where he is learning house manners and is in the beginning stage of housetraining.

This cutie is a catahoula mix, the official canine of Louisiana. The ideal home for a catahoula is one with a fenced yard and opportunities for the dog to perform its natural work of tracking and herding. He will require exercise daily as well as firm guidance and training. Catahoulas are excellent family dogs who are affectionate, loving, protective, and a dedicated companion.

Puppies need proper training and socialization to grow into fabulous adult dogs. It takes dedication and effort and is a lifelong commitment. Helping Strays recommends socialization and obedience training to encourage good behavior and strengthen the human-animal bond.

Jake's adoption fee is $200; he is microchipped, neutered, and up to date on vaccines. Some of our pets are in foster care. If you are interested in a specific pet, please contact the shelter at (618) 939-7389 to arrange a meeting.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Jake Ryan, a Columbia Catahoula Leopard Dog puppy was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Catahoula Leopard Dog for sale in Columbia, or seeking a Catahoula Leopard Dog puppy from a breeder in Columbia.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Columbia already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Columbia breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Catahoula Leopard Dog breeders who help with Catahoula Leopard Dog rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Columbia paves the way for another one to be saved.
