Royal Bahamian Potcake

About The Potcake (aka 'Royal Bahamian Potcake') Breed

The majority of our dogs are of mixed breeds, locally referred to as 'Potcakes.' This name is derived from a popular dish here, peas and rice. The 'cake' that sticks to the bottom of the pot was usually thrown into the yard for the dogs (and in many cases, it still is). Potcakes are an officially recognized breed in the Bahamas!

Potcakes typically have smooth, short fur with little or no undercoat, cocked ears, a hound-like rib cage and long terrier-shaped faces. More rare are the shaggy or rough-coated Potcakes. The 'typical' Potcake is brown, but colors range from party (brindle) to black, white, cream, yellow, and red. Adults stand about 24 inches high at the shoulder. Normal adult weight is 25 pounds in the bush, but once healthy and homed, they can weigh 30-45 pounds, depending upon bone structure.

Potcakes are genetically-engineered to tolerate heat, long-term physical stress, extreme competition for food, and a low protein diet. As pets, Potcakes comprise the 'traits of the Potcake breed' and are highly-intelligent, fiercely loyal, and very enthusiastic, bonded companions. These dogs are generally uncommonly smart, easily-trained, and make the most loyal and loving companions you could ever want. They are usually so grateful to live in a house, that they almost housetrain themselves!

Please make a difference and save the life of a truly unique and WONDERFUL Potcake!

About All For One Pet Rescue, Inc.

About Our Rescue Group...

Our Mission:
A team of passionate volunteers dedicated to the rescue of adoptable animals at risk of euthanasia, with a focus on quality care, community education, and to act as a voice to improve the quality of life for all animals.

We are a new rescue (2 weeks old!), created by 5 friends that have been working in animal rescue for the past 5 years. We decided it was time to have fun again, doing what we love, and get things off to the right start from the beginning. We will be starting off as a No-Kill, foster based group, with our eyes on have a facility and sanctuary in the future. Everything we do is for the animals, and no animal will be going for adoption until it is 100% ready, and is completely healthy. We will also only do adoptions of animals that have been spayed or neutered, so as to not contribute to the over-population problem. One aspect we are going to working on most seriously will be education. Our president would like to eventually have programs in the area schools to teach children the importance of spaying and neutering, and proper animal care and training. We 'inherited' 14 animals from our previous rescue, we all agreed it was better not to disrupt them in the long term foster care that have been in, and we will continue to work to find them the best possible homes.

Come Meet Our Pets...

Because we are foster based, arrangements will be made when someone is approved to come meet the animal at one of our weekly adoption sites.

Our Adoption Process...

We have an adoption application that is reviewed by volunteers, once a selection is made, arrangements would be made for the person to meet the animal and if all works out, complete an adoption. We require our animals to be indoor pets, not to live outside. For cats no declawing is allowed. We can provide a copy of our application to see what we are looking for in a prospective adopter. Our animals will be in private, volunteer foster homes until they are ready to be adopted.
