Boots ADOPTED TX's Story...

Meet Boots!

Boots was adopted 1/3/09. His new name is Alvin and his new home is in Longview, Texas.

Boots is a male black Dachshund Chihuahua mix also known as a Chiweenie, 3 white spots on 3 paws 12 weeks old. 11/24/08 he visited the vet clinic and received his 1st set of puppy shots and fecal tested positive for worms. Boots received de-worming medicine. Pictures taken 12/7/08.

Boots and his 10 other brother and sisters were rescued from the Texarkana Animal Shelter 11/24/08. JTR received a phone call from the shelter asking for assistance in the 10 little Dachshund mix puppies. The puppies arrived the previous day which was a Sunday. Texarkana, Arkansas animal control picked upped the liter as an owner surrender. All puppies were exposed to the Parvo virus. Unfortunately 5 of 10 puppies passed away during the first 8 days after their rescue and first vet visit. The remaining 5 are happy healthy and very loving.

Boots and his siblings will be ready for adoption December 15, 2008. All the puppies are 100% healthy. They will receive their second set of puppy shots 12/15/08

Boots and his siblings are a miracle to be alive. He is very playful and loving. Boots would be perfect in a home seeking a small loving soul.

Special thank you to the Smith Family. Dawn, Foxx and Ramzi Renee of Redwater, Texas. The Smith Family has fostered, loved and cared for these rescued souls. The effort in this rescue to help the Texarkana 10 pups is truly admired.

Boots adoption fee is $100.

To apply for adoption please email to received an adoption application.

JTR will transport and ship any animal. All rescued animals deserve a wonderful home now and not sit waiting for months. Jeff will personally drive some distance to help a homeless animal find his or hers forever home.

All puppies not spayed or neutered when adopted from JTR must have a copy of the adopters STATE I.D., DRIVERS LICENSE or PASSPORT, NO EXCEPTIONS. This is to ensure the adopted animal will be spayed or neutered before reaching 6 months age. Proof of spay or neuter is required and a contract is required. All adopters may use JTR’s local vet clinic to perform the low cost spay or neuter.

Never adopted before?

Everyone wishing to adopt an animal from JTR must complete an adoption application. This application asks for general information about the adopter, adopter’s family, other current and prior pets and previous veterinary care. If you have never had a family pet before, follow up veterinary calls will be made during the year to insure the animal is being well cared for. Home visits are required unless the distance is too far for JTR or JTR’s contacts. Pictures of the home and common ground are required. Once the application is approved the adopter may meet and or adopt any of JTR's animals. A signed adoption contract is required. Adopters with approved applications are top priority to JTR.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Boots ADOPTED TX, a Texarkana Dachshund/Chihuahua puppy was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Dachshund/Chihuahua for sale in Texarkana, or seeking a Dachshund/Chihuahua puppy from a breeder in Texarkana.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Texarkana already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Texarkana breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Dachshund/Chihuahua breeders who help with Dachshund/Chihuahua rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Texarkana paves the way for another one to be saved.
