Tuffy ADOPTED TX's Story...

Meet Tuffy!

Tuffy was adopted 2/3/09. His new home is in Texarkana, TX.

Tuffy is a male, tan Dachshund Chihuahua mix also known as a Chiweenie. He is 7 weeks old and weighs 2.5 pounds. 1/13/09 Tuffy received his 1st set of puppy shots and wormed. Pictures taken 1/18/09.

1/18/09 Tuffy was listed as having a hernia. He does not have a hernia but does have dew claws on his rear paws.

Tuffy and his brother Ruffy were rescued from the Humane Society of Northeast Texas in Longview, Texas. Both were owner surrendered to the shelter. Partnership for Pets (PFP) pulled the brothers out of the shelter within minuets of their arrival. PFP contacted JTR to help the brothers. 1/17/08 Tuffy and Ruffy made the trip to Texarkana.

Tuffy and his brother Ruffy are both very playful, loving souls. The size of them right now will fit both boys in a large tennis shoe. Both puppies are a ton of love, laughs and fun. Either or both would be a wonderful addition to any home.

Special thank you to Partnership for Pets(PFP). PFP is a wonderful rescue group helping the east Texas animals.

To apply for adoption please email to received an adoption application. If you have already completed an application with another rescue, please feel free to email that application.

JTR will transport and ship any animal. All rescued animals deserve a wonderful home now and not sit waiting for months. Jeff will personally drive some distance to help a homeless animal find his or hers forever home.

All puppies not spayed or neutered when adopted from JTR must have a copy of the adopters STATE I.D., DRIVERS LICENSE or PASSPORT, NO EXCEPTIONS. This is to ensure the adopted animal will be spayed or neutered before reaching 6 months age. Proof of spay or neuter is required and a contract is required. All adopters may use JTR’s local vet clinic to perform the low cost spay or neuter.

Never adopted before?

Everyone wishing to adopt an animal from JTR must complete an adoption application. This application asks for general information about the adopter, adopter’s family, other current and prior pets and previous veterinary care. If you have never had a family pet before, follow up veterinary calls will be made during the year to insure the animal is being well cared for. Home visits are required unless the distance is too far for JTR or JTR’s contacts. Pictures of the home and common ground are required. Once the application is approved the adopter may meet and or adopt any of JTR's animals. A signed adoption contract is required. Adopters with approved applications are top priority to JTR.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Tuffy ADOPTED TX, a Texarkana Dachshund/Chihuahua puppy was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Dachshund/Chihuahua for sale in Texarkana, or seeking a Dachshund/Chihuahua puppy from a breeder in Texarkana.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Texarkana already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Texarkana breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Dachshund/Chihuahua breeders who help with Dachshund/Chihuahua rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Texarkana paves the way for another one to be saved.
