CookP5 ADOPTED CT's Story...

Meet Cookie P5!

Cookie P5 was adopted 5/9/09. His new home is in Putnam, CT.

Cookie P5 was born 2/11/09. He is a male Chihuahua Dachshund mix also known as a ChiWeenie. Cookie P5 weighs 2 pounds and is black, tan and white. He also has his ears up already and a under bite. 3/25/09 Cookie P5 is 6 weeks old and visited the vet clinic to receive his first set of puppy shots and fecal tested positive for round worms. Medicine was given to treat the worms. Pictures taken 3/25/09.

Cookie the mom is a 1 year old female Dachshund mix. She weighs 16.3 pounds. 1/22/09 Cookie visited the vet clinic. She is pregnant and in good health. Cookie received a heartworm and fecal test. The occult heartworm test showed her to be heartworm negative but her fecal tested positive for hookworms. Medicine was given to treat the hookworms. Cookie is believed to give birth in the next 2 weeks. Cookie will be available for adoption as soon as her motherhood has finished. She will be spayed and given all her shots including rabies. Cookie will also be Micro Chipped before adoption.

Cookie was owner surrendered 1/23/09. She was left to fend for herself after her owners moved from their home located in southeast Texarkana, Arkansas. A next door neighbor knew Cookie and took her into their home until help could be found. The kind lady contacted several people who contacted JTR. The original owner of Cookie informed the neighbor that the father is a Chihuahua. The original owner asked to have one of Cookie’s babies and was told no. Other words were running thru my head but no was said.

Cookie is a loving lady. She knows her name and loves to be held in your arms. Cookie is excellent with children and other dogs. With Cookie’s age of 1 year old, she is still a puppy herself. Cookie is potty trained and learning what a leash is. Cookie will make any perfect addition to any home.

Special thank you to the Texarkana, Arkansas neighbor for helping Cookie find a rescue then seeing her go to the local shelter.

All puppies not spayed or neutered when adopted from JTR must have a copy of the adopters STATE I.D., DRIVERS LICENSE or PASSPORT, NO EXCEPTIONS. This is to ensure the adopted animal will be spayed or neutered before reaching 6 months age. Proof of spay or neuter is required and a contract is required. All adopters may use JTR’s local vet clinic to perform the low cost spay or neuter.

To apply for adoption please email JEFFnTEXARKANA@aol.com to received an adoption application. If you have already completed an application with another rescue, please feel free to email that application.

Never adopted before?

Everyone wishing to adopt an animal from JTR must complete an adoption application. This application asks for general information about the adopter, adopter’s family, other current and prior pets and previous veterinary care. If you have never had a family pet before, follow up veterinary calls will be made during the year to insure the animal is being well cared for. Home visits are required unless the distance is too far for JTR or JTR’s contacts. Pictures of the home and common ground are required. Once the application is approved the adopter may meet and or adopt any of JTR's animals. A signed adoption contract is required. Adopters with approved applications are top priority to JTR.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

CookP5 ADOPTED CT, a Texarkana Chihuahua/Dachshund puppy was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Chihuahua/Dachshund for sale in Texarkana, or seeking a Chihuahua/Dachshund puppy from a breeder in Texarkana.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Texarkana already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Texarkana breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Chihuahua/Dachshund breeders who help with Chihuahua/Dachshund rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Texarkana paves the way for another one to be saved.
