Sunset ADOPTED TX's Story...

Meet Sunset Strip!

Sunset Strip was adopted 8/23/09. His new home is in Cedar Hill, Texas.

Sunset Strip is a male, red in color with a little black on his backside, Standard Dachshund. His dew claws are removed, vet birthday guess is 6/18/01 and he weighs 19.10 pounds. Sunset Strip visited the vet clinic 6/18/09 and received his shots with rabies, direct heartworm tested negative but occult heartworm tested positive and fecal tested negative. Sunset Strip visited the vet clinic 6/24/09 to receive his heartworm treatment. He showed no signs of illness during his 2 weeks of rest and vet check ups. Sunset Strip visited the vet clinic 7/13/09 to receive his neuter and a full dental losing 2 teeth. Pictures of Sunset Strip's teeth were taken before and after his dental and will be included with all his vet records supplied to the adopter. Sunset Strip is now 100% healthy and ready for adoption. Pictures taken 7/19/09.

Sunset Strip was rescued 6/18/09 from the Animal Care and Adoption Center (ACAC) in Texarkana Arkansas. He was picked upped 5/12/09 by the Hooks Animal Control as a stray in Hooks, Texas and was held for 5 days. Hooks, Texas is 10 miles west of Texarkana. Sunset Strip was named Sunset because of the street he was found on. Strip was added by JTR.
Sunset Strip was picked as 'Pet of the Week' 6/18/09 in the local Texarkana paper. His picture and a bio of Sunset Strip was on the second page. Sunset Strip looked wonderful. He also was taken that same week to a local radio station and information about Sunset Strip was shared on the air along with how to adopt him from the (ACAC). Sunset Strip had been bitten on his left leg by another dog in his holding area 6/18/09. It was swollen and he started limping. JTR was contacted 6/18/09 by ACAC to help get Sunset Strip medical attention. It was agreed Sunset Strip would be given vet care at the expense of JTR but Sunset Strip would return to the ACAC because of all the phones calls to adopt him. While Sunset Strip received medical care he was given shots with rabies and heartworm testing. When Sunset Strip occult tested heartworm positive, he was taken into rescue due to the expense of heartworm treatment.

Sunset Strip is a very friendly and loving soul. His tail is always waging and he is always on the look out for where you are. During his time at the ACAC JTR visited Sunset Strip at least once a week. He was always a happy camper there. He was not pulled because of possibly being adopted and his adoption fee paid to ACAC would help another animal. It was hard to leave him there. Sunset Strip enjoys the outdoors. He is no dummy when it comes to 90 plus degree weather. A shade spot is where you will find him looking at you and wagging that tail. Sunset Strip will come with the snap of your finders. JTR will use the handy dog clicker donated by Lynette C of Texarkana, Texas to see if he can be trained. Sunset Strip will make any Dachshund lover a perfect friend. His coat and color shine even after 8 years of living. Sunset Strip is crate, potty and leash trained.
Special thank you... The Texarkana Animal League for always being there for the animals. Lynette C. and her husband Larry, they are dear friends and supporters of JTR. The dog clicker is great! The entire ACAC staff for always contacting JTR to help the animals. The Texarkana Gazette Newspaper  for placing a 'Pet of the Week' every week. Mimi with Mix 93.3 Radio Station in Texarkana Arkansas for helping as many animals as humanly possible.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Sunset ADOPTED TX, a Texarkana Dachshund dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Dachshund for sale in Texarkana, or seeking a Dachshund dog from a breeder in Texarkana.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Texarkana already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Texarkana breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Dachshund breeders who help with Dachshund rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Texarkana paves the way for another one to be saved.
