Special adoption considerations: Dukas would prefer a home with no young children.

Herro there! My name is Dukas, but you can call me Duke! I am a super cute and loving chocolate labrador retriever mix, and I love all the people I meet! Do you think you could open your home to me?

A little more about me: I am about 2.5 years old which means I am likely done growing and out of the puppy stage. However, I would love some training so I can do all of the fun activities that other city pups get to do! I like to pride myself on my good looks and 45 lbs weight, and would love to be in a home where I get to spend time exercising outdoors and romping around in my new yard or the local dog park! But at the end of the day, I just want someone to snuggle up with. I have been observed to do well with dogs and cats in the home, but I am not ready for young children yet!

Somehow I ended up in a scary shelter, but I am ready to make my move to DC and become the best companion you could ask for! If you think we are a perfect match, please let my adoption coordinator know. I look forward to meeting you!

Foster Update:

Dukas' foster says he is doing great at the dog park romping around with other dogs! He is also a complete love in the home, and absolutely adores his people!

Like most shelter dogs, Dukas may need a refresher on housetraining. He is likely crate trained.

The adoption fee for this dog is $350, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter. If you are interested in adopting, please download our Adoption Questionnaire and email it to Lauren Tavar at!

About Lucky Dog Animal Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

Lucky Dog Animal Rescue is a group of highly motivated and highly dedicated volunteers. We spend countless hours making sure that wonderful dogs find loving forever homes. We don't do it for money -- we do it for the joy a dog can bring to its new family; we do it for our love of animals; and we do it to save lives!

Come Meet Our Pets...

Our adoption events are held each weekend. A schedule of times and locations can be found at

Our Adoption Process...

The adoption process begins when you submit an adoption application either online or at an adoption event. The individual responsible for the dog you are interested in adopting - a position we call the “adoption coordinator” - will then set up a time to discuss your application over the telephone. The adoption coordinator will check your vet reference to make sure all current and past pets were kept up-to-date with their shots and medical care. The adoption coordinator will also set up a home visit with one of our trained volunteers. That individual will come to your home to ensure that it is a safe environment, to confirm that everyone in the home is on board with adopting a dog, and to discuss any other questions you may have about dog adoption!
