BREED: Dachshund/Catahoula Leopard
WEIGHT: 12 lbs
AGE: DOB: 06/22/16
LOCATION: Winnsboro, LA
ADOPTED ON 10-22-16 - It is doubtful you will ever see a cuter little girl than Misty. Her big, brown eyes and beautiful coloring will melt your heart. Those floppy ears will make you want to scoop her up and dote on her all day long. And that is exactly what she deserves. After Misty and her brother were deserted at a stranger’s house, the neighbors very large dogs tried to attack. These babies were so scared and bewildered. They were only 7-8 weeks old and had no idea what happened to them or where they were. Fortunately, the kind woman that lived at the house snatched them up and kept them in the house until there was room at the local rescue. If not for her, who knows what would have happened?
Today, this adorable Dachshund mix is a playful and very loveable girl. She is absolutely smitten with children, which indicates she would be a great addition to a family with young kids. Misty loves attention, as most puppies do. She is learning quickly and has a wonderful disposition. Misty deserves a loving home after her very rough start. She is happy and healthy and ready to go to her forever home.
Misty and her brother Bean get along so well that their foster said it would be terrific if these two could be adopted together but it's not a necessity. Few dogs naturally possess the ability to fit in anywhere, Misty not only fits in, she surges with joy at every opportunity, her video is proof of the gusto she has for life. She is eager to please and delights at every opportunity for new experiences. If you have an urge to have an instant best friend that is always glad to see you, you really should give this magnificent loving girl a look. Will you be Misty’s new family and make her a permanent part of your household?
Misty is in Winnsboro, LA; RDVG rescues dogs in the North and South, however, the dogs that are in the South are transported up every Saturday after they have completed all the recommended treatments and are directly adopted to an applicant.
DIRECT ADOPTIONS are adoptions where a dog is adopted from the rescue origin to their forever homes. Due to the many vaccinations, tests and procedures that are most essential for the dog in the beginning, the vet that originally treats the dog, will be able to continue with all phases of their needs to completion. Likewise, the original foster is a dependable and reliable resource to the adopter before and after the adoption. In the best interest of the dog, RDVG prefers direct adoptions.
ABOUT THE DACHSHUND BREED
Dachshunds are known for being lively — a written description of how the Dachshund should look and act — probably describes their personality best, saying "the Dachshund is clever, lively, and courageous with all senses well-developed. Dachshunds have soulful eyes and complex facial expressions.
Dachshund is a small purebred known for being alert, courageous, independent, lively, and playful dog. No matter what their size, Dachshunds are a delightful addition to any family, which is why they have ranked near the top of most popular dogs lists since the 1950s. Their cute appearance and lively disposition have inspired many affectionate nicknames for the breed, including wiener dog, hot dog, etc. But they also are very happy to join in with family activities. They love their people and are typically very affectionate and enjoy snuggling. They are alert, independent, lively and playful. They are able to handle most types of hot and cold weather.
CHILDREN AND PETS
This small, drop-eared dog is tough enough to take on a badger, although they originally were bred to hunt ferocious badgers and other animals, today's Dachshunds are ideal family companions. Additionally, many people show them in obedience, agility, field trials, and earth dog trials. They are also hard-working and well-appreciated therapy dogs.
The Dachshund is a highly intelligent, friendly and fun loving dog. This is a suitable breed for kids and is known to be playful, energetic, and affectionate. Some Dachshunds will 'guard' their family.
The Dachshund is described as clever, lively, and courageous. Dachshunds have a reputation for being entertaining and fearless, but what they want most is to cuddle with their people At home, the Dachshund's playful nature comes out. He loves to be close to you and "help" you do things like tie your shoes.
No matter what their size, Dachshunds are a delightful addition to any family, which is why they have ranked near the top of most popular dogs lists since the 1950s. Dachshunds are the most popular variety in the United States.
They do, however, need a sweater in the winter if you live in an area with cold weather. Dachshunds are a good choice for apartment dwellers and people who don't have a backyard. They are popular with urban dwellers because of their small size and ease of care. They generally are active indoors and also enjoy going on walks. Just be careful not to let them get too fat or allow them to injure their backs by jumping off furniture. Also, be sure to support their backs when you are holding them. Because of their long backs, they are susceptible to slipped or ruptured (herniated) disks in their backs, which can result in partial or full paralysis.
ABOUT CATAHOULA LEOPARD DOGS
Catahoula Leopard Dogs have a gentle family spirit. Easily comfortable playing on the carpet with children. Gentle, wise and easygoing, they make an agreeable family dog and warm-hearted friend. They are naturally protective of their home and family, and make excellent watch/guard dogs.
Catahoula’s are exceptionally intelligent and loyal. However, they are also a highly energetic and very assertive breed. They are affectionate and sensitive to their owner. As one owner puts it, they are "strong" and "made of whipcord and leather". They are very protective of their family
CHILDREN AND PETS
Some describe the Catahoula as a great babysitter for kids. The Catahoula is suitable for families with children, but despite his family loyalty and protectiveness, all dogs should always be supervised in the presence of toddlers or young children.
Catahoula’s get along well with other dogs. All adult dogs regardless of the breed, they may require more of an adjustment period before they welcome the company of another dog. To ensure the best relationship, choose a dog of the opposite sex. Make introductions in a neutral area away from your home.
Catahoula Leopard Dogs combine hard-working toughness with a gentle family spirit. Easily at home on the range, trudging through swamps and rivers, they are just as comfortable playing on the carpet with children. Gentle, wise and easygoing, they make an agreeable family dog and warm-hearted friend
Protective and loyal with their owners, they can be slightly reserved around strangers. They have a strong sense of territory, but they are more cautious than anything, keeping a watchful eye on strangers and new people until they feel comfortable. Catahoula’s make excellent watchdogs.
Always teach children how to approach and touch dogs, and always supervise any interactions between dogs and young children to prevent any mouthing, biting, or ear or tail pulling on the part of either party. Teach your child never to approach any dog while he's sleeping or eating and not to try to take the dog's food away. No dog should ever be left unsupervised with a child.

We diligently and responsibly seek good matches as we don't want to re-home the dog again. These animals have already endured more than they should have, and through no fault of their own. It behooves us to be honest and forthright, and we appreciate the same in return from applicants. It's that winning combination of reciprocal trust and respect that allows for successful placements to be made. Happy adopters translate to happy dogs, and that's our goal!

Thank you for respecting that we all donate our time to saving these animals, and understand we value your philanthropic and compassionate desire to help be part of the rescue team. That said, you'll understand why we are committed to the well-being of our charges and consider this veterinarian check mandatory. If you are a first-time dog owner, we will work with you every step of the way! ADVOCACY AND EDUCATION ARE AS MUCH A PART OF RESPONSIBLE RESCUE AS ADOPTION! And it takes a RESCUE VILLAGE to help the most dogs possible in a thorough manner to ensure success on all fronts, and then some! It is an awful feeling to fail a dog, and we can't continue rescue if we don't do everything we can to ensure good matches for the dogs and tender families who might adopt them. THANK YOU FOR UNDERSTANDING.
Although we are an extremely small rescue group, we understand and respect your family's eagerness to be in touch and learn as much as you can about the dogs you are considering adopting. Our very experienced and devoted trainer will be happy to share all aspects of OUR RESCUE DOGS to determine compatibility once you've submitted your application, and another of our volunteers will explain the whole process of our rescue and answer any questions you might have as well
