Chunky Monkey is looking for her soulmate. She likes to chase her tennis balls and stuffed animals around the backyard and would love to find someone who loves to play. But she also likes to curl up on the couch and watch a movie while having her head pet. Chunky Monkey is a sensitive young dog and is still learning some of the basics. She is kenneled trained but is still working on house breaking. She spent her first two years being an outside dog and is still learning the ropes of being a companion. Chunky Monkey is currently working on sit and lay down. She is eager to please. She does mostly fine with dogs and likes to chase cats in a playful way. She would be best in a house with older children as she doesn't know her own strength and is possessive with her toys and bones. She also was badly bred and will eventually have hip issues down the road. If you are looking for a friend to accompany you on walks or cuddle up on the couch, look no further. If you are interested in adopting a CAWS pet, please fill out an online application at

About Community Animal Welfare Society

About Our Rescue Group...

Founded in 1992 the Community Animal Welfare Society ( CAWS) is one of the oldest no-kill animal rescues in Utah. Over the last 20 years CAWS, our fosters and supporters have saved thousands of lives including over 600 last this year. As the largest foster home network in the state of Utah we focus on high risk pets in need of additional care and rehabilitation

Come Meet Our Pets...

CAWS does not have a conventional shelter facility - all CAWS animals waiting for adoption are in foster homes. The number of animals we can help find new homes for is closely linked to how many CAWS foster homes are available. For additional information regarding how you, too, can become a foster, please see our fostering page located on our web site!

CAWS volunteers bring cats and dogs to the PetSmart near 2100 South and 300 West in South Salt Lake on the third and fourth weekends of each month

We are also at the Sugarhouse PETCO (1165 Wilmington Ave) the first Saturday of each month.

Our Adoption Process...

Since we make a lifetime commitment to any animal that comes into our program, we only adopt out animals to people in our area..

If you are interested in adopting a CAWS cat or dog, please fill out the online application at, email or call 328-4731. For the most timely response applying online is recommended.

We respond as quickly as possible but as we are a volunteer based organization and do not have full time staff, we respond as quickly as possible.
