Meet Pumpkin...

Pumpkin is very special pup...we are not sure what happened to this baby in such a short life, but it was not good. Pumpkin came to us and you couldn't even touch him. In just a few short days, he has really come around. he is about 6 months and smaller - about 30 pounds. He was saved from a high-kill shelter.

Pumpkin really is the sweetest boy if you can be patient and go slow with him. I would not recommend kids under 10 as he is still afraid of anything loud or fast moving. He will need to have another dog in the house. A confident playmate is important for him as he LOVES dogs. He does not pay attention to cats.

Pumpkin is fully vetted and is here in RI. If you would like to meet or adopt this boy, please fill out an application on our website:

About New England Humane Society

About Our Rescue Group...

The New England Humane Society is an all breed dog rescue located in Northern Rhode Island. We have foster homes located throughout New England. We are a group of dedicated animal lovers who rescue animals from euthanasia at overcrowded county shelters and pounds, as well as abandoned animals, litters found in fields, and other homeless animals in need. NEHS’s goal is to care for these rescues until they find their forever homes, and educate the public about responsible pet care. Our animals are fully vetted and spayed or neutered. They are treated regardless of age, breed, or medical cost. NEHS receives no state funding or government assistance. We survive by the donations of caring people, fund raising, and adoption fees. Since we do not have a facility, most of our pets are kept in private foster homes in Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Connecticut.

Our Adoption Process...

Thank you for your interest in adopting a rescue! Adoption literally saves lives. When you adopt from our rescue, you enable us to pull another dog from a shelter, which saves the life of another dog and creates more space at the shelter so that new dogs can be kept longer.

The first step is to submit our online application. Please make sure it’s complete : )

If the application is approved, we will make arrangements for you to meet any dogs in your area that you may be interested in and that fit your requirements.
Once you have decided to adopt a dog, you will need to complete the adoption agreement and pay the adoption fee of $375.00 - $450.00. The adoption fee helps us to recover a portion of the expenses we routinely incur in rescue (boarding, vaccinations, worming, spay/neuter if age appropriate, and transport) so that we can continue to save other dogs. Please note that the adoption fee is nonrefundable.
