Sidney is a two to three-year-old male Terrier/Schnauzer mix who was rescued from the Devore Animal Shelter. He is mostly cream colored, with some tan markings throughout his coat. He is a low shedding dog, and he may even be hypoallergenic. His coat does not require professional grooming; he is wash and wear, with maybe a little bit of brushing now and then. Though he has the appearance of being a wire-haired terrier, his coat is actually quite soft. Being 16 lbs. he is a GREAT size; he is technically a small dog, but with a medium-sized dog feel.

Sidney is a very sweet and loving, good-natured dog that loves to hang with his people. He is a bit of a Velcro dog, but is also a good balance between going off to explore and play, and chilling next to you on a pet bed. He very much enjoys playing with other dogs, especially chase, ball throwing, and tug-of-war with a toy. He has been exposed to multiple dogs, big and small, and does well with the pack. He is crate-trained, but is not a big fan of the crate. When in the crate, we have to tell him to hush a couple of times before he eventually settles. Because this is a rescue, Sidney eats in the crate, sleeps in the crate, and is crated if we have to leave the house for a bit.

Sidney rides well in the car and is not destructive in the house, though he does have some traits that are inherent to terriers. Sidney is an obedient dog that is responsive to instruction and redirection (he seeks to please his person) but could benefit from a basic training class to learn basic commands. Sidney is quite potty-trained; he has never had an accident in our homes; and in terms of how boy dogs sometimes mark their territory in a new place, we have never seen Sidney mark inside the house (however potty reinforcement and observation is always good in any new environment).

We have not tested Sidney around young children but it seems as if he would be great with kids, providing that they are gentle and respectful of the dog. We have no information about how Sidney is with cats. Sidney has a slight issue with separation, but we notice that as he gets more secure in a new place, he adjusts quickly and a crate can be used in the transitional phase. He is learning to play fetch! He is also learning to walk nicely on a leash.

The home we seek for Sidney is a home with another playful and welcoming dog who will be his buddy and playmate, as well as people who are not collectively gone for long, extended hours on a daily basis. A yard is a plus; however, I am willing to forgo the yard, if there are other avenues for outlet. We may consider a home where he is the only dog depending on the circumstances.

Sidney is neutered, fully vaccinated (including rabies), Front-lined, dewormed, and micro-chipped. About Angel's Heart Dog Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

The primary focus is to rescue a few dogs from animal shelters who are red-listed for no other reason than there are too many dogs in an overpopulated state shelter system, and they simply need more time for someone to notice them. The intent is to locate friendly animals who could otherwise be great family pets if not for the misfortune of being homeless. Angel's Heart also takes in occasional strays but not owner surrenders. We can help by offering suggestions and tips for owners needing to rehome their pet.

Come Meet Our Pets...

The meet and greets are held in the homes of the rescuers and fosters by appointment only. A meet and greet is scheduled after an application is submitted and approved.

Our Adoption Process...

There is an application process, a meet and greet, and an adoption fee. Adoption fees are as follows: For dogs age one year or older- $200.00, for dogs 6 months to 11 months - $225.00, for most puppies under the age of 6 months - $250.00 and for certain pure-bred dogs - $300.00-$350.00. All of the rescued dogs are spayed/neutered, micro-chipped, and fully vaccinated including rabies. Since most of the dogs come from city and county shelters, vet checks, medications, fecal tests, de-wormers, Front-line, and other services are also provided as needed. The adoption fee is considered a donation to the rescued animals within the adoption program of Angel's Heart Dog Rescue. Varying fees provide additional financial support for particular dogs who are harder-to-adopt cases or specialty medical cases. We strive to give you as much information as we can about the animal you wish to adopt by observing his or her behavior in a variety of settings and social situations.
