Joey is endearing. He has much potential and hasn’t a mean bone in his body. He will probably never be a lap cat (though he could surprise us!) but deserves a good, loving home where his family will give him the time and space he needs to continue to build his trust and affection.
If you are the type person who enjoys the journey Joey offers, please come meet him. You won’t be disappointed.
Joey started out life with a feral mom and lived with her, two older kittens and 2 siblings for the first 6 weeks of his life. After he was trapped and neutered he went to live with a CAWS foster who has been determined to convince him that life is good and humans are to be trusted, if not adored.
Joey has come a long way. With his sister, Sandra, he now plays joyfully, allows being held and seems to enjoy being petted just a little. He rolls on his back to be scratched just a little and then scurries away. He is still cautious but eats treats from her hand and gets on the bed to be close but not on her lapIf you are interested in adopting a CAWS pet, please fill out an online application at

About Community Animal Welfare Society

About Our Rescue Group...

Founded in 1992 the Community Animal Welfare Society ( CAWS) is one of the oldest no-kill animal rescues in Utah. Over the last 20 years CAWS, our fosters and supporters have saved thousands of lives including over 600 last this year. As the largest foster home network in the state of Utah we focus on high risk pets in need of additional care and rehabilitation

Come Meet Our Pets...

CAWS does not have a conventional shelter facility - all CAWS animals waiting for adoption are in foster homes. The number of animals we can help find new homes for is closely linked to how many CAWS foster homes are available. For additional information regarding how you, too, can become a foster, please see our fostering page located on our web site!

CAWS volunteers bring cats and dogs to the PetSmart near 2100 South and 300 West in South Salt Lake on the third and fourth weekends of each month

We are also at the Sugarhouse PETCO (1165 Wilmington Ave) the first Saturday of each month.

Our Adoption Process...

Since we make a lifetime commitment to any animal that comes into our program, we only adopt out animals to people in our area..

If you are interested in adopting a CAWS cat or dog, please fill out the online application at, email or call 328-4731. For the most timely response applying online is recommended.

We respond as quickly as possible but as we are a volunteer based organization and do not have full time staff, we respond as quickly as possible.
