Sandy lives with her sibling, Joey, and together they are learning to trust and enjoy life indoors. She loves to chase a ribbon toy and a feather bird. She trusts enough to eat yummy wet food at the knee of her foster Mom and allows petting during the feast.
It would be good if Sandy could find a home with her brother, Joey, but it is not an absolute. He is the dominant sib and takes care of his little sis. She may blossom when she’s on her own, given the time and space.
If you like watching kittens grow in trust and love and don’t mind not being adored (for now), Sandy is your sweetheart. She’s gentle and sweet natured. Come see for yourself.
Sandy started out life with a feral mom and lived with her, two older kittens and 2 siblings for the first 6 weeks of her life. After she was trapped and spayed she went to live with a CAWS foster who has been determined to convince her that life is good and humans are to be trusted, if not adored.
Sandy is still very shy. She allows her foster Mom to hold her and can even be heard purring after a few minutes. But her trust level is low and fear still drives much of her behavior.

About Community Animal Welfare Society

About Our Rescue Group...

Founded in 1992 the Community Animal Welfare Society ( CAWS) is one of the oldest no-kill animal rescues in Utah. Over the last 20 years CAWS, our fosters and supporters have saved thousands of lives including over 600 last this year. As the largest foster home network in the state of Utah we focus on high risk pets in need of additional care and rehabilitation

Come Meet Our Pets...

CAWS does not have a conventional shelter facility - all CAWS animals waiting for adoption are in foster homes. The number of animals we can help find new homes for is closely linked to how many CAWS foster homes are available. For additional information regarding how you, too, can become a foster, please see our fostering page located on our web site!

CAWS volunteers bring cats and dogs to the PetSmart near 2100 South and 300 West in South Salt Lake on the third and fourth weekends of each month

We are also at the Sugarhouse PETCO (1165 Wilmington Ave) the first Saturday of each month.

Our Adoption Process...

Since we make a lifetime commitment to any animal that comes into our program, we only adopt out animals to people in our area..

If you are interested in adopting a CAWS cat or dog, please fill out the online application at, email or call 328-4731. For the most timely response applying online is recommended.

We respond as quickly as possible but as we are a volunteer based organization and do not have full time staff, we respond as quickly as possible.
