My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

COURTESY POST FOR OWNER: please note Paws for Life is courtesy posting this dog. The owner is choosing the applicants. Paws for Life is not making the decisions for Stanley.

Hi, my name is Stanley! I was born on Sept. 24, 2015, so I just turned 1 year old. I have been raised with love and TLC my whole life. I've never known a bad day, until now. My wonderful owner has stage 4 cancer and can no longer take care of me. She is heartbroken, but asked this Rescue to help find me the best home possible. I’m a healthy, well-behaved Great Pyrenees/Lab mix who weighs about 50 lbs. I love other dogs. I am such a good boy! I never break things or destroy things or jump on people. I’m gentle and calm and I expect the same from my people. I’m super smart. I’m sensitive and respond very well to positive reinforcement and praise. I know "sit," "lay down," "drop it," "leave it" and "stay" on command and I'm willing and able to learn so much more because I’m attentive and eager to please. I’m quiet and I only bark when I want to come in from outside. I love to play in the fenced yard, but if my owner is away from home, I’m always indoors. I’m housetrained, crate trained, neutered and up-to-date on vaccinations. I love to be where my people are - I love companionship, affection and attention. I just want to be part of the family, a best friend to someone. I’m good with baths. I was raised with a canine buddy and I don’t mind when people or other dogs walk by my yard. I’ve had no exposure to cats or small children. I’m playful and after a little romp and run, I love to relax on the couch by your side and chew my Nylabone. I'm good with car rides, although I've never been on a long trip. I walk well by your side on leash with an EasyWalk harness and I need a walk at least twice daily to explore the world, exercise and socialize. I really enjoy it and I look forward to my walks. If all this great stuff isn't enough to convince you what a fantastic dog I am, then I should add, I’m quite handsome too. Please give me a chance! Adoption fee: $75. Adopt a pair: $115. Fee includes testing, deworming, vaccinations, spay/neuter, 60 days of free pet insurance and microchip.

NOTE ABOUT BREED LABELING: Visual breed identification of dogs is unreliable and usually inaccurate. So, for most of our adoptable dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.

Why is labeling a dog such a big deal? A label will stick with a dog for the rest of its life. A label can mean discrimination, losing its home or even death. Labels are a problem for the dogs when we, as the local experts on animals, allow adopters, politicians and community members to think that the label we assign can predict who that dog is or will be.

Adoption Process:
Complete the application at www.pawsforliferescue.org. We then arrange a location, date and time for you to meet some pets. If the meeting goes well and everyone is happy, you begin the mandatory, minimum two-week adjustment period with the pet as part of your family. You will pay the non-refundable adoption fee at the start of the two-week adjustment period. This pending period allows your new dog or cat time to adjust to their new home, new people, new routine, etc., and for you to decide if it's a match and the right pet for you. At the end of two weeks (some people extend the adjustment time as needed and that's fine too), if everyone is happy, then we finalize the adoption. Feel free to email if you have any questions.
