Hello! I am part of the Boone County Animal Shelter's BARN CAT PROGRAM.
Formerly-outdoor, indoor/outdoor or semi-social/semi-feral cats present a huge problem for the Boone County Animal Shelter because these cats are not suitable for adoption into family homes and in some cases may not have a "home territory" to return to. In response to this problem, the Boone County Animal Shelter has developed a Barn Cat program that places under-socialized cats in safe and loving placements at barns and farms or other safe locations.
While not a typical adoption, the Barn Cat program puts cats who need and want homes with limited human interaction into forever homes that can give them safe & sheltered outdoor space, regular feeding, and veterinary care as needed.
All Barn Cats are spayed or neutered and vaccinated prior to adoption/placement. The Boone County Animal Shelter assists barn and farm owners in integrating the cat into its new home, and can even help with transportation from the shelter to the cat's new home!
If you have a barn, farm or other safe area and are interested in saving an urgent cat at the Boone County Animal Shelter, please call Officer Quint at 859-586-5285.

About Boone County Animal Shelter

About Our Shelter...

Boone County Animal Shelter is the animal control and care agency for Boone County KY. We are committed to giving every adoptable animal in our care the best opportunity for a loving home.

Come Meet Our Pets...

Please visit our facility Monday through Friday from noon to 6PM and Saturdays 10-4. In the spring and summer, our adoption waggin' is out in the community with adoptable pets. Visit our facebook page for up to date information on adoptable pets and special events.

Our Adoption Process...

Fees vary depending on a number of factors including age, type of animal and spay/neuter status. If an animal is not spayed/neutered prior to leaving the shelter, adopters are required to sign a contract agreeing to have the animal altered within a set time frame. Adoption fees, if any, include a certificate to assist with spay/neuter costs. All animals leaving the facility are microchipped and adopters receive a free vet visit as part of the adoption process. All our cats have tested free of feline disease and all adult spayed/neutered cats can be adopted for no fee.
