This handsome fella is Chaplain! He was born with either no eyes or extreme micro ophthalmia meaning he has no visible eye tissue in his eye sockets. Now you may ask how this guy is able to get around, and the answer would be JUST FINE! He has learned to navigate his foster home, and gets along with all the other dogs and has the dog door down too! He's not the most popular with the teeny tiny ones because he does occasionally step on them. Chaplain is a neutered male great dane who is about 2 years old and fully grown weighing in around 110#. He can hear just fine all it takes is one shake of the treat bag and you'll have an insta-buddy for life! He is VERY food motivated and does take treats like a gentleman!

Chaplain's adoption fee is 250.00 he's been neutered, heartworm negative, fully vaccinated, and microchipped. Now all he needs is a family to call his own. If you are interested in adding Chaplain to your family please go to and fill out the application there.

Please note we are a group of private foster homes and NOT a public shelter, we have weekly adoption events at the Unleashed petstore at 18138 San Pedro (1604 & 281) in San Antonio, on Saturdays from 11-3 . With an approved application on file we are happy to hold your chosen pet for 2 hours past the start of our event to give you time to get here. We routinely do adoptions throughout the Austin and San Antonio areas and the rest of Texas. We try to schedule bi-monthly meet ups in Austin, as interest is generated.

About Homeward Bound Dog Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

We are a group of private foster homes dedicating to saving and finding forever homes for as many dogs as we can. We primarily pull from the local kill shelters, and we also rescue abandoned dogs. We fully vet and assess the temperaments of our fosters and then try to find them the best forever homes possible. We do it because we love them and because we hope our efforts encourage others to do the same. We also participate in local rescue advocacy groups and work in public education efforts to promote spay / neuter and responsible pet ownership.

Come Meet Our Pets...

We aren't a shelter so don't have a public viewing area, but we participate in area community adoption events and schedule meetings with potential adopters by appt. once we have an approved application

Our Adoption Process...

Our policies, procedures, and fees are listed on our website and in our applications and contracts. We require an approved application prior to setting up a meeting (usually a home visit), a contract if the meeting goes well, and a trial adoption period before finalizing the adoption.
