Metro's Story...
Metro is an adorable, naturalized canary-winged parakeet. She was found being attacked by crows in Norwalk by the Metrolink station, hence the name. She was hatched in the Spring of 2015. She has a birth defect which has affected her beak and upper pallet. Also, her flight feathers do not grow in. Because of this, she can only eat soft foods (soaked pellets, fruits and veggies, etc--absolutely no seeds!). She eats very well on her own. Her beak does need some attention, though it is minimal (trimming with a nail clipper and filing with an emery board every couple months). She cannot fly, but she forgets this, so she must be kept in a room with carpet on the floor as she falls like a rock. She is independent and likes to get around on her own, so she currently has a ladder network which allows her to move about. She does not like to be locked in her cage all day. She likes to be around other birds; as she cannot defend herself physically, they need to be small and gentle. She will definitely let her feelings be known if she is not happy with something! She loves toys and sleeps in a hidey hut. She also likes to hide in sleeves and in blankets so you must take care when you sit down! She has not shown in sign of sexual behavior or nesting, however. She would be a great pet in a house with gentle children as she is incapable of biting. Canary-winged parakeets have a lifespan of about 10 to 20 years. She is very healthy and has been vet-checked, though we do not know if she will have a typical lifespan or not. The foster care provider cares very much for her and is in no hurry to place her.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Metro, a Sylmar Parrot - Other was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Parrot - Other for sale in Sylmar, or seeking a Parrot - Other from a breeder in Sylmar.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Sylmar already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Sylmar breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Parrot - Other breeders who help with Parrot - Other rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Sylmar paves the way for another one to be saved.
