Annabelle is a 3 1/2 - 4yr old Dane that was owner surrendered. The first couple pictures don't even show how bad of shape she really was in when we got her. She was 25+ lbs underweight, had a horrible skin infection and her whole back was nothing but scabs and she had an eye infection. She had mastitis and there was blood coming from her teats. She had just had puppies 9 weeks prior. Her eyes were so inflamed that she couldn't see very well either. The day she came in her life changed!
Annabelle is a super sweet girl. Despite all her issues, she is the epitome of a "Gentle Giant". She is very well behaved and coming from living outdoors, has not had one accident in the house. She was also a little under weight and wasn't properly being cared for, but despite being hungrier than usual, she has never counter surfed or stole any food that was left unattended or within her reach. She also has not been destructive in any way. She was kenneled the first few days when no one was at home, and at night. She did willingly go into the kennel when told, but she definitely doesn't care for it. After a few days I gave her a chance to be left alone during the night and she did fine. So ever since then, she has had full reign of the house 24/7.
She didn't seem to get along with her foster sister Betty the Boxer at first, but after about 4 weeks and lots of patience they are now best friends. Despite getting used to another dog, she had no problems with her kitty sisters, a 6 month old kitten and an elderly cat who passed a week after taking Annabelle in. She was fine with both, and my old man who was not doing so well, would come out to sit near Annabelle, so I knew she was a gentle soul. She also lives with 3 skin kids, and is gentle with all of neighbors small children.
She listens very well when you say her name. She did have some issues with stairs and bare floors, but now does great with both. She also has shown interest in wanting to play with toys. She loves attention and if you stop petting her, you will be reminded to continue with a big paw pulling you back. She has come to love her medicated weekly showers. Yes that's right, she can not get in and out of a tub, but if you have a walk in shower this girl will happily follow you in. She will also lift her paws to let you dry them, and sit still so you can blow dry her.
I can definitely say that she is a special gem. She is docile and laid back, but everyday a new part of her personality comes out. Annabelle is the type of Dane that Dane lovers long for. She is just an all around sweetheart.
