**Tulip is currently being fostered in Houston. She is available for out-of-state adoption to the perfect forever family! Unfortunately, meeting Tulip in person prior to her adoption will not be possible. Her adoption fee is $500, which will cover her transport to her new home and she is of course fully vetted. Because the flights are so expensive, the adoption fee is non-negotiable. **

Tulip came to us the victim of pretty unspeakable abuse. Animal control found her hiding under a car when they were called out to investigate a potential dog fighting situation. Tulip was the dog that other dogs were being encouraged to attack and when she wouldn’t fight back, she was beat with a board in an attempt to kill her. Since we are known in the local community for taking in abused bully breeds, the local shelter asked if we could make space for this sweet girl. One look at her battered little body and we could not get to the shelter fast enough to pick her up.

We spent the first few weeks nursing her back to health, even pulling splinters out of her head and legs. She had a severely sprained leg, could barely walk, had broken teeth and wounds all over her poor little body. At first, she was so scared we had to sit in her kennel with her to feed her and clean her wounds. Slowly but surely, in true ultimate dog forgiveness mode, she came out of her shell, understood we loved her and wanted to help her, and began to blossom into the amazing flower of a dog that she is.

Tulip still has a tiny bit of fear of new things, but she has never shown a single ounce of aggression, even after everything that was done to her. Her default is to hit the ground and wait for mom or dad to pick her up. But these instances are becoming fewer and farther between. She loves to go on outings and to meet new people (especially if they have yummy treats!) and is a champ in the car. She is a medium activity level girl, she loves to go for a long stroll and could be a good running buddy given the time to build up her stamina.

Tulip is an American staffie, around 3 years old, and a squatty 45 pounds. She is fully grown and will not get any bigger. She is amazing with other dogs, both big and small, but is submissive, so a dominant/large dog would not make a great companion for her. Tulip also LOVES kids and would make the most amazing companion for children who know how to be gentle and loving with pets.

Unfortunately, because Tulip was not cared for well before coming into rescue, she is heartworm positive. She has been started on a slow kill protocol and the rescue will provide the medication and direction needed to continue her on her treatment plan. She is has no symptoms or side effects, it is just something we need to continue a small amount of medication monthly.

Tulip is house and kennel trained and walks well on her leash. She also looks super cute in a sweater and will your best friend if you give her the opportunity. Despite her past, she holds no grudges and is loving, sweet, gentle, and affectionate with all people.

Tulip is fully vetted and healthy (shots, spayed, microchipped, and dewormed). Aside from her heartworm, she is healthy and has no known health/allergy concerns.

Our Adoption Process...

All Reggie's Friends dogs are located in Houston TX and all of our adoptions are out-of-state. This means that the dogs cannot be met prior to adoption. While unconventional, it is the best way we have figured out how to save dogs suffering in Houston. We have finalized over 300 out-of-state adoptions in the past two years.

The first step in our adoption process is to complete an application on our website - hovering over the Adoptables tab will bring up the application link. Following the application, we will conduct a reference and vet check and then set a time for a video chat via Facetime or Skype in order for potential adopters to "meet" the dog and us. We have found great success in conducting our adoptions in this manner and look forward to much success in the future!
